Manual Transmission Shifting Problem

The last couple of days it has been extremely hard to get my vehicle into any gear except for 5th. When the engine is cold it shifts fine but once it is all warmed up I have the hardest time. I have a 1994 Chevy S-10. It has a brand new clutch in it and the tranny looked good when we took it out to look at it when i first bought the truck about a month ago. Im not sure what the issue could be.

SOURCE: tranny high shifting

There is a linkage on the Loadflight A-500 transmission that travels from the throttle linkage to a lever on the transmission. Proper adjustment of this linkage controls the shift schedule of the transmission with respect to engine throttle position. This would be the most likely place to start after ensuring that your fluid level is correct.

SOURCE: Audi A8 transmission trouble

Hi, first i would check the fluid level if it is not a sealed trans. if the fluid level is ok, it may be that the TCM(transmission Control module is malfunctioning. this module controls the actual shift points. the TCM sends the shift signal to the shift solenoids that are located inside the transmission pan. these shift solenoids preform the engagements of the gears on command, which is initiated by this module i speak of. this module may be damaged,in return, causing this confusion in the shifting patterns you are experiencing.

SOURCE: My 1991 Saab 900 is shifting perfectly except it will not go into

I've had a similar problem, and it was the rubber bushings in the shifter link; as some particular ones age they get sloppy and 5th gear seems to be the one that suffers. Others will age and disintegrate, then you won't be able to shift at all. If all the other gears are fine (no grinding, judder, popping out of gear or other untoward behaviour) I'd look to these rubber bushings, and replace them all while you're at it. They're replaceable at much less cost than a tranny rebuild, and are most likely that cause, i.e. after rebuilding tranny, you still won't get into 5th because the shifter won't have been rebuilt, just the contents of the gear box!

Check the "Bentley Bible" aka the Saab 900 Official Service Manual, costs about $40 from Amazon, for info, it's an invaluable resource!

Did you put the correct fluid back in the transmission? If it is too heavy weight oil it will cause the synronizers to stick.

W hat do i do with problem with gears in mitsubishi rvr 1995 diesel a couple of days ago couldnt get 5th gear now i can get 5th again and cant get 4th

The first thing I would do is make sure the clutch is working a leaking slave or master cylinder would give you problems with 5th gear and reverse possibly 4th depending on the transmission .
If the clutch pedal is engaging off the floor you likely have a problem with it .With a hydraulic system the higher grabs the better the disk is .Also if fluid is leaking out then air is getting into the system .
Try having the clutch bleed .
The transmissions last a long time 3 to 4 hundred thousand miles if the oil is changed every 3 to 4 years .
However they are extremely complex to rebuild and hard to get parts for unless you know some people .
So bleed the clutch then drain the transmission oil see how much comes out should be at least a qt .and half also look at the pieces of metal small stuff is OK but large pieces like gears and clips are not.

I'm missing a switch on top my manual transmission on 91 geo tracker, that I was told that it was a 5th gear switch... can't find anything to show this. Is there such a switch?

Not sure what you mean by "switch" but shifting from 4th gear to 5th gear is the same motion as shifting from 2nd gear to 3rd gear.

1st 3rd and 5th gears are spongy to shift into

Start with the firs post and have those cables and linkage assembly looked at if those are good then what you have is a loose bolt on the transmission that bolt is responsible to keep the gear in place when loose the transmission will do what you described as well nothing more nothing less.

94 buick lesabre. 119,000 miles. happened 2 times on different occasions. only first part of day, first time started that day, at about 50 degrees. Start engine, shift into either reverse or drive, and...

You could have a shop check pump pressure - usually the cause is a weak pump or problems with the valve body.
Chances are if you just sit in drive at idle, it will also move on its own in a couple of minutes once the fluid warms up.
I never recommend changing fluid after 100k.

What does this shifting means..3,2,1 on automatic transmission range rover 2.5. Can you still shift the gear from D to 3 while the car is in motion...?

Yes, you can shift while the car is in motion. It works in a similar manner as a manual transmission, except that there is no clutch. Your car has 4 gears + overdrive. 1, 2, 3, 4=D, 5= Overdrive. So if you're on the highway and you shift into 3rd, you're down-shifting twice (from 5th to 3rd). The car will downshift itself if you hit the gas hard enough though! So, yes, you can shift from D to 3 while the car is in motion. No problem. Alex

Hard to shift

You may have what is called a syncronizer problem which is basically a transmission rip down and inspection, when the syncros go they create havoc inside the gear box making shifting extremely difficult in these gear ranges.
The other thing that also should be inspected at the same time the transmission is looked at is the clutch assembly, clutches should last long times depending on how each vehicle is driven, generally a clutch can be worn out in as little as 30,000 miles if it is pushed hard as oppossed to a car being babied and lasting 100,000 miles or more.

Blazer transmission not shifting properly beetween 1 and 2

Your going to have to get the ECM scanned, Auto Zone scan's for free and most garage now will scan for $10.00 to $15.00 since they all have the scanners now and need the business.
You could have a Vehicle Velocity Sensor (V V S)  going bad or the wire harness it self. The V.V.S tells the ECM how fast the drive shaft is rotating and calculate's what gear it should be in relative with the engine speed and throttle position, and transmission fluid pressure.
Regardless you need the Blazer scanned to pin point why your transmission is shifting the way it is. Could be as simple as time for transmission oil and filter change for $125.00 or a loose wire harness.
Check your transmission fluid and try not to run the blazer to hard, to replace the transmission start at $1,900.00 for a rebuilt.
Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted
