remove the inner door panel then disconnect the arms that run from the outside door handle, the inner door handle, the door lock mechanism, from each unit. then undo the 3 bolts/screws on the end of the door to remove the door latch assembly.
This procedure work for door lock, but necessary you need take off the trim panel, then could helpfull...

Disconnect the battery ground cable.
Disable the Supplemental Restraint System.
Remove the door trim panel. Refer to the illustration for the
mounting screw and lock tab locations. After detaching the hardware,
carefully pull it away, then lift it off the door just far enough to
detach the electrical connections from it.
Carefully detach the water shield from the door; this will be reused upon installation.
Disconnect the inside door lock rod from the handle retainer clip.
Detach the door lock rod from the retainer clip.
Remove the rubber plug to access the outside handle rod. Disengage it from the clip and disconnect the lock cylinder rod.
Detach the electrical connector and remove the lock from the vehicle.
Installation is the reverse of removal. When installing the lock, tighten the screws to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
on the inside of the trim peice take a flathead screwdriver and gently work around the inside of the trim peice and if you find the right spots were the clips are it will just pop off.
see if you can pull the outside handle out a little & put some needlenose pliers in the opening & grab the rod to open the door. otherwise unscrew the door panel & get into the inside of the door that way.
Broken inside door handles are a common problem and there is not an easier way of fixing problem.drill out head of rivet with a 3/16 drill bit.Then slide handle assy. from panel.To install new handle attach the two rods you removed .Then slide new handle back into the slots and replace the rivet.
The Actuator is not functioning anymore, check to see if there is a fuse for it first. If that is ok then remove the actuator and test it outside using some wire and your car battery to see if actually moves or doesent this will tell you if you need a replacement.
u r asking 2 different things if u are working on a gm pick up as they r seperate items... door handle is bolted in, lock uses a clip... remove door panel!
It helps to have a flat pry tool to get the door panel off but, other than that it's not too hard. Autozone has a tool in the help section that is made to work with those and they have the replacement push clips that always seem to break.
