I remove two panel underneath the steering column. The first panel is removed using a 10 mm socket. The second panel is removed using a torx socket (can't remember the size). Removing these two panels gives you room to get to the clip on speedomter. Looking at the speedometer, you should see two rectangular holes on each side of the speedometer cover. I use a awl to push in the clip (you could use a screwdriver). Looking underneath the dash, you should be able to see the clip you are pushing on with the awl. I take my 2nd awl and put it behind the clip. I get the left side to release. One the speedometer cover releases, you can see the speedometer. You will see the 4 torx screws (t20) and two smaller clips holding the speedometer. All that is left is the wiring. (I take a sharpie pen and mark one of my wire locations on the speedometer. I am not sure what it does. It is a single wire.)

SOURCE: instrument cluster panel

The transistors are BST80, the numbers are just SMD codes, but the reason to make transistor to fail is the illumination layer is faulty. There is also a transformer which may have open circuit You should check that either

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge.

2006 ford 500 instrument cluster not working but car starts and runs but back up light stay on

I found a service bulletin, this is part of it. May be a problem with soldered joint on printed circuit board for instrument cluster. The part that caught my attention was, the reverse lights stay on. You may need to get instrument cluster repaired or replaced.

2003 Jetta Tdi instrumentation cluster both LCD segments are no longer displayed Remove cluster and disassembled carefully removed displays and cleaned contact pads on circuit board and cleaned zebra...

Your LCD display is out of order. You can try to find one new on eBay. Chinese brand is cheaper, but VDO is better. After buying the LCD display you will need to install it.
See this link as an example of a new LCD display installation in the instrument cluster.

Where is the fuse for the gas gauge on a 1998 volkswagen beetle

Most cases fuel gauge will run with the instrument panel circuit. Check for the instrument panel fuse. If thats okay and it's just your fuel gauge you might have a loose connection or a new fuel gauge

None of the gauges are working

I assume you mean the instrument cluster. It is either a blown fuse ,(it will be one of the small fuses located in the top of the fuse box. The fuse box is located on the far left hand side of the dash on the drivers side under a little door), or a defective instrument cluster.

Speedo, tacho, fuel guage not working on my 2000 vw beetle any ideas, checked all fuses, could it be a relay?

Not likely that a relay would cause this.

Modern instrument clusters are packed full of capacitors and numerous other types of electrical components. A faulty soldered connection can create havoc with the entire cluster.

There are numerous cluster repair facilities across the country. Google "speedometer repairs." Scan down the sites and see if problems with your model car are mentioned.

2004 vw beetle instrument lights out, how do I replace?

Check your fuse block for a blown fuse. There should be a schematic for the fuse block on the inside of the cover and/or in Section 3.2 of your Owner's Manual. In my 1998 VW Beetle I'd check fuses #5 and #11.
