Try, loosen the lug nuts then finger tight and back a 1/4 turn. Make a couple slow (walking pace) figure eights with vehical. Else use a bigger hammer.

SOURCE: REAR BRAKE DRUM WON,T COME OFF

Make sure the wheel turns and adjuster backed off . If you can see a Countersunk screw in the face of the hub remove it.  If hitting it fails , usually you can see two small 8,10 or 12 mm holes in the face of the hub . Find the correct bolts and screw them into the the hub , it should force the the drum to pop off . What car is it , and does it have tapered wheel bearings on the outside of the drum?

SOURCE: CANT GET DRUMS OFF BACK BRAKES

If you can spin the drum that means the brake shoes are not tight to the drum so just take a hammer or dead blow and hit the drums a few time that should loosen it up. You can use bolts to push it out but I can't remember what size they were off my head, I know a 12mm socket will fit over it.

SOURCE: My 2005 mazda tribute brake lights will not turn off

The stop light switch is sticking. If it's a mechanical one that is operated by the movement of the brake pedal the replace the switch. If a hydraulic one is fitted, remove one wire and see if the stop lights go off. If so then replace the hydraulic switch.

HOW TO REMOVE THE REAR BRAKES DRUMS ON 2008 MAZDA BT 50

Unless you are a keen home mechanic you better off taking this to a Good Mechanic as it's a time consuming, fiddly job.
**Note* Make sure your front wheels have blocks in place to stop it rolling and Sometimes brute force is the only way to get the drum off.*
With the vehicle safely raised off the ground, does the wheel spin freely with the park brake off? Yes? The drum should just pull off. You might have to tap the drum between the wheel studs/hole with a hammer to loosen any rust holding it on or use a 'drum puller' tool.
Not spinning? There is a star adjuster inside the drum you can 'back off' to move the brake shoes out of the way. That is a slow fiddly job where you have to turn the adjuster one notch at a time with a flat blade screwdriver. This is done through an access hole on the back of the drum or one of the bolt holes on the front of the drum. If your going to do it yourself try searching the YouTube link below.

How do you remove a brake drum from a 2002 Mazda tribute lx

If it doesn't have a bolt or screw that hold it to the axle then the drum may have a grove cut in it from the rivits from the worn pads . In the rear side of the drum plate you should find a rubber plug , remove it and them you will have to use what's called a brake spoon to adjust the brakes down until the drum will come off . Be careful turning it one way loosens the other way tightens it

Sticking handbrake

Has the vehicle drum brakes? Has the brake stuck because the vehicle has been parked for a while? If yes, the linings have just stuck to the drum, sometime just reversing the car will be enough to release it. If not remove rear wheels and bang the face of the drum with a hammer, Failing that the drums will have to come off by any means. (Slide hammer). Good Luck

How do I remove rear brake drums on 2002 toyota camry

first remove the wheel and this will expose the brake drum. next make sure emergency brake is off. spin drum by hand, if it spins freely you can use a heavy hammer and give it a hard whack and drum should pop loose, if not remove the drum by inserting two bolts into the threaded holes on the drum face and continue driving the two bolts forward evenly which in turn walks drum off. if this was helpful please rate 4 thumbs.

How do I remove the rear brake rotor?

Do now follow the advice on some sites that instruct you to use 8mm bolts. This is for front rotors only.

For the backs; remove the caliphers, engage the parking brake, remove the two phillips head rotor retaining screws from both rotors, and then release the parking brake. Rotor should turn freely. If the rotor doesn't come off with hand pressure (very unlikely), you will have to give it a sharp smack with a 3# hand sledge! Smack and wiggle until it comes off.

How do i remove back brake drums on1998 dodge grd caravan to look at the brake pads? seems bolts holding drum cover on.

I don't believe there are bolts on that. If there are you can see them when you take the wheel off. If no bolts here is what you need to do.

1. Take off tire

2. Back off brake shoes.

3. Get a hammer and beat on it,be careful if you want to reuse them they can break if hit to hard. An air hammer works the best, right on the hub between the studs. I know it sound simple but sometimes they really get stuck on.
Hope that helps.

How do you change rear drum brakes for a 1996 mazda protege? I cannot remove rear drum brakes.

If the rear drums are seized you will need to tap on the sides with a hammer while rotating the drum, this will loosen the hardware inside and allow it to come off.

If it is the shoes that will not come off, you need to find the spring and retainer that hold them on and disconnect them.
