The fans could be running all the time due to a bad relay or temperature sensor. Also if the coolant level is low inside the engine. Air reacts very differently than coolant does. Low coolant level can be caused by an internal or external leak. Was the car recently repaired or serviced? Anything that may be related to this new issue? What have you tested so far? Depending on what you have noticed and if you have evidence of low coolant. You may want to inspect the overflow tank, Degas bottle, radiator, heater core, engine and all related hoses. If the cooling system is ok then there may be a problem somewhere within the fan circuit.

SOURCE: How can I keep my cooling fans running all the time on a Pontiac Aztec (2005)

To keep them running, pull the plug off the engine coolant sensor. They will run even with the key on (PCM default). To get them to stop running, replace the engine coolant sensor.

My 2004 pontiac grand am cooling fan doesn't work what do i need to do

The cooling fan can be run through a self diagnostic by a dealer using a special tool called a scanner, it will then deliver back to the tech what is found, this can be any number of things, the fan motor wiring to it or the controller for the fan. Guessing is not an option and if you keep overheating this engine you will shortly need a new one.

I have a 98 sunfire. should the cooling fan on the radiator come on from the initial start up?

The engine cooling fan is designed to come on when the engine reaches 225-235 degrees Fahrenheit. That is the only time it runs. Do you get a check engine light?

1993 pontiac bonneville electric cooling fans relay location

Hi, check.........I need to know which fuse runs the cooling... on this forum thread. Its not a fuse if the fan turns but could be fan relay. Unplug the coolant temp sensor lovated just below the thermostat houing and see if the fans come on. If they do, it might be the coolant sensor that is bad.

I need some help finding out why my fans will not work?? I own a 2001 pontiac firebird the fans usually run all the time now they aren't running at all. The guage is reading normal but I have checked the...

The fans run only when they need to. It is winter time, the air is colder, maybe the fans don't need to run to cool the engine coolant. Remember, there is cold air flowing through the radiator as you drive down the road.

These thermostatic controlled fans are used in modern cars to reduce weight and improve fuel economy. They also make it much easier to work on the car and to replace the fans if they becme faulty.

Watch your engine temp - it it goes up and stays up, then you have a problem.

P0481 on grand prix 2002. cooling fans work with a/c on and relays seem ok. vehicle temp gauge opertaes ok and does not seem to get hot.

sounds normal, the fans were made to run continuous w/ ac running, but on sensor when ac is off. if car isn't overheating, the fans are probably running from time to time ,but your just not catching them running

2003 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 6 Cyl - Cooling Fan Not Operating

the fan motor could just be bad, you can test this by removing the fan and connecting a wire to each terminal and to a battery. the wires hooked up one way will spin the fan and the other way will spin the fan backwards so you cant hook it up wrong. I hope that helps you out!
