SOURCE: Temp. gauge doesn't work

That is the temperture control sensor to start the fans at the radiator. they have another sensor called the Engine Temperature Sensor. It is also located at the top of the engine.

SOURCE: dash gauges not working

Check the large multi-pin connector in the electronics bay in the engine compartment. The bay is a fairly large black plastic box on the driver's side. Open it and disconnect the largest connector inside (one screw). Spray electrical contact cleaner on the pins and re-mate the connector. This worked on my '99 with the exact same problem. You can find other examples of this with a Google search. It may not solve your problem (could also be a wiring harness problem), but it is incredibly simple and worth a shot.

SOURCE: 95 saab 900 turb0 gauge cluster works intermetanly

I have this problem too and my new Saab mechanic told me that I would probably need a new instrument cluster. He said a brand new one costs $2500 but that he would order me a used one from a car that had fewer miles than mine as you can set them back but not forward. He both diagnosed and temporarily "fixed" the problem by slamming his hand really hard on the dash over the panel and all the lights and gauges immediately started working fine....for now. I haven't had the work done yet (I have a 1998 Saab 900S with 130K) so if anyone has any other ideas about this I would love to know what they are. This issue with the gauges and dash lights has been happening on and off for over a YEAR and this is the first time someone has had any idea what it is. I already had my ignition switched replaced so we know that's not what it was. THANKS

None of my gauges are working ion my dash

Intermittent gauges usually mean a bad ground connection for the gauges. Things to check: look for multiple ground connections at one screw to chassis frame & tighten it; check large connector at rear of instrument cluster for good connection; replace gauges fuse - it can be cracked. If none of those work, than instrument cluster circuit board will probably have to be replaced - which means removing the cluster.

98 Town Car, how do I change dash lights, (fuel gauge bulb)

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the instrument cluster.
  3. Remove the retaining screws for the instrument cluster lens and cover assembly. Remove the cover and lens.
  4. Remove the retaining screws for the gauge or warning lamp to be replaced and remove the gauge or warning lamp. To install:

  6. Install the instrument cluster lens and cover assembly.

2002 chevy cavalier gauges not working - battery was jumped after leaving lights on- gauges quit working after

Start the car. remove the cluster fuse from the fuse panel to the left of the dash. Wait 5 seconds and reinsert the fuse. It should be fine until you replace the battery again.

The dash smoked and now none of the gauges work. I was told there was a battery in it that could not be replaced, and I would have to replace the whole cluster. Is this correct? What are my options on...

Never heard of a battery inside an instrument cluster. Modern clusters do have various capacitors and other electrical components and can be complex to repair when they fail.

There are numerous cluster repair places across the country that do this type repair work. Google "speedometer repairs." You will have to remove the cluster and ship it to them.

Instrument panel went dead

Checked Every fuse in the fuse box (no small task). This includes #4 - Power point Instrument Panel, #14 - Day time running lamps (auto lamps doesn't work nor does auto lock), #27 - ignition switch run feed, #35 - Instrument Cluster, #41 - Instrument Cluster, #42 - Delayed Accessory, #45 - Ignition switch run/start feed, #102 - Door locks body security module, #103 - Ignition switch, #110 - Ignition switch, & #116 - Ignition switch. But I also check all other ones as well, they all register OK. AC panel & radio work. Turn signals work. Mileage does not work, trip computer does. So, basically, everything works except auto head-lights, auto locks, and the dash cluster (no MPH, RPM, mileage display, Fuel, Temp, Tran Temp, and Oil Pressure).

Gauges not working

OK, check the fuse box to see if the fuses that are designated for these instruments are still in working order. if the fuses are ok, remove the instrument cluster from the dash and, check the back side of the cluster board. pull all connecting plugs to check the metal contacts on the cluster board. try to straighten the plugs and re attached the wiring harness, this should revive the gauges.

if this dose ot produce results, replace th entire cluster.
