Check both O2 sensor(s) and catalytic coverter.. P0420 means catalyst below threshold. Also check the sensor at the transmission and solenoid.

Jack the vehicle up and secured for safety. The get under where the shifting gears are and put it in park and shift each gear from park and go through all gears. Make sure none of your brackets are hitting when you shift through all gears. You will need to remove the shifting cable so you can shift through all gears. If your transmission brackets hit anything then there is your problem. Adjust shifting cable so it is free of not hitting anything. You may have to relocate the cable bracket. Sometimes you can bolt it to the pan with a different mounting bracket. The shifting cable must be straight no kinks or bends where the additional adjustments are for the cable. If that’s all good make sure there is no slack in the cable that hooks to your shifter on the floor. Sometimes you can reset the shifting by locating the relay box and see where the lights light up and make sure the lights coincide with the gear that you’re in in your vehicle.
