I would contact the rebuilder and ask him for guidance. You'll need to know what service codes it's setting as it tries to work. It's possible there is a problem in the transmission - rebuilt or not- or there may not have been a problem with the transmission at all and there is a controller or wiring issue.

SOURCE: while driving truck makes a humming sound in drive now no reverse

If you have no reverse then yes it needs to be rebuilt. as far as the whining it could be in one of the differentials. or in trans? just depends on where you hear it

SOURCE: E4OD Trans stays in OD no matter where the shifter position is.

Transmission Description The E4OD transmission is a fully automatic, electronically controlled, four-speed unit with a torque converter clutch. The main operating components of the E4OD transmission include a torque converter clutch, six multiple-disc friction clutches, one band, one sprag one-way clutch and two roller one-way clutches that provide for the desired function of three planetary gear sets. Transmission gear selection in the (D) range and converter clutch operation is controlled by the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650). Operating conditions are relayed to powertrain control module by various sensors throughout the vehicle. The powertrain control module compares these conditions with electronically stored parameters and logically determines how the transmission should operate. A torque converter (7902) couples the engine to the transmission gearset via the input shaft (7017) and the torque converter impeller hub. The impeller hub provides engine rpm to the positive displacement pump. The flow from the pump is proportional to engine rpm, and excess pump capacity is exhausted back to the pump inlet. The input shaft transfers power into the transmission gearset. The power input is controlled by the application of the torque converter clutch, which is scheduled through the powertrain control module. The application of the piston plate effectively replaces the hydraulic coupling between the converter cover and the turbine with a mechanical coupling between the converter cover and the turbine hub. This mechanical coupling helps improve fuel economy and wide-open throttle performance by eliminating converter slip. Transmission shift selection and torque converter clutch operation are controlled by the PCM. They are calibrated to provide the optimal transmission state. This state is commanded to the transmission solenoid body. In the (D) range, automatic operation of all four gears is possible. The transmission control switch, located on the vehicle's shift lever disables overdrive operation and enables automatic operation through the first three gears. Whenever the ignition switch is turned on, the vehicle will automatically provide overdrive operation regardless of the switch position the last time the vehicle was running. Manual gear selection is available in the 1 and 2 range. Second gear is commanded when the gearshift selector lever is in the 2 range and when downshifted into the 1 range at speeds above approximately 56 km/h (35 mph) (for diesel 48 km/h [30 mph]). First gear is commanded in the 1 range at start-ups and when downshifted into 1 range below approximately 56 km/h (35 mph) (for diesel 48 km/h [30 mph]). Any reference to intermediate brake drum or direct clutch cylinder are one and the same.

I think this is your problem:

Programmable Speedometer/Odometer Module (PSOM): Description: The programmable speedometer/odometer module receives input from the rear brake anti-lock sensor, which is mounted on the rear axle differential housing. The PSOM processes this input signal information and relays it to the powertrain control module and the speed control module. This signal tells the powertrain control module the vehicle speed in miles per hour (mph). Used as an input in determining shift scheduling and electronic pressure control. Symptoms: Harsh engagements, firm shift feel, abnormal shift schedule, unexpected downshifts may occur at closed throttle, abnormal torque converter clutch operation or engages only at wide-open throttle (WOT). May flash transmission control indicator lamp. Diagnostic Trouble Codes: 452, P0500, P1500, P1501, P0503

SOURCE: no reverse after rebuild on 4L60E Transmission from 1995 GMC Sono

There isn't a modulator on this trans as it is electronic

You can have first gear going forwrd but no reverse. It is possible. The low/ reverse clutch isn't needed to go forward.

SOURCE: car will not shift into gear

Sounds like a linkage/cable to me. Disconnect the linkage at the transmission and move the shift actuator by hand to see if there is the same things happening. Don't try to do this with the engine running unless someone is holding the brake inside the car.

SOURCE: turbo 350 trans no forward gears but does have reverse

It's either your servo, or your bands.
Either way, the tranny needs a good cheap shop repair.
I'd just get a warrantied salvage yard tranny if I were you and save a few hundred bucks.

Slight hiccup going into second gear. rebuilt trans.

code p 0442 is the code for faults concerning the EVAP system
and will not show up in transmission changing gears
indications from your statement is problems in the TR sensor, VSS or TCM units
check for problem wires and connections
as for the problem of getting to park from reverse , check the adjustment of the park and neutral switch as one may have moved or be loose

1986 chevy truck with a brand new trans will go into al forward gears but will not reverse?

this is a mechanical linkage system so if it goes in all forward gears has park and neutral but no reverse and the fluid level is full then you have a bad transmission even though its new it does happen.you will have to get another new trans to replace it.

I trying to replace the neutral safety switch on my 2000 grand caravan 3.8 L 4 speed transmission. I know that its an internal part just trying to replace it. Thanks for your help. Steve

remove the shift linkage at top of trans. 10 mm pinch bolt. place trans in low gear before removing linkage. this will help later. unplug neutral switch connector. remove bottom transmission pan and and drain fluid. remove all the 10 mm bolts on the valve body. careful when removing vb because 2 sets of springs will fall out. it is important that they go back in the same holes they came from.there are two pistons under the springs. they go in the holes first with the recess towards vb. remove blue seal from vb shaft. its only a dust seal . remove # 25 torqx bolt from sensor and slide off shaft.reverse procedure. if you have doubt about the location of springs look at witness marks on vb. i recomend using factory fluid and have the codes cleared and a quick learn procedure preformed with a scan tool.

I just rebuilt my transmission on my 2003 chevy impala 3.4L, after reinstalling the motor and trans it will not start and the dashboard indication for the gears do not match the shifter position!?!?!

Sounds like you got the transmission linkage hooked up incorrectly. If you didn't get it right, the neutral safety switch(the one that lets you start the car when in neutral or park only) will prevent the car from starting.

Need to locate backup light switch on 1988 chevy 1500

I had the same problem. My backup lights wouldn't come on in when I put the auto. trans. shifter into the Reverse position. They WOULD come on briefly as I moved the shifter from Park position into Reverse, but would go off again when the shifter reached the Reverse detent. I got the solution from the Haynes service manual, in which the relevant switch is referred to as something like the neutral safety switch. Check on top of the steering column close to the firewall. Set the parking brake, then move the auto. trans. shifter into Neutral position. Get under the dash and rotate the neutral safety switch clockwise as far as it will go. Then move the shifter into the Park position, and your switch should be set. If the backup lights don't come on now when the shifter is put into Reverse position with the ignition switch 'on', there may be another problem.
