Just to be sure, check out the bulbs and sockets.
Make sure the two dots sockets (look into the base) is using two dot bulbs.
====
Check the single brake switch that activate by the brake.
If you has a meter then please check out the contact points.
Sometime this switch move out of aligment.
Dirt can also be part of the problem.
===== I will apply 12V power to the brake switch socket and make sure the blubs light to rule out wire problem first.
Please post more infor on the comment window.

    Light switch on the dash is an easy fix just but the replacement switch and look at it you will see a button on the bottom of the switch with a spring on it. push this button down to remove the switch rod pull it all the way out like turning on head lights. then remove the beauty ring by turning it counter clockwise with a screw driver, once ring is off pull switch out and look at clips on the side, push with fingers to unlok and wiggle it out of old switch.install in reverse. And again if you need more help psot here, if it has both a light switch in the dash then remove the dash unit first if it looks burnt or that light shaft is loose replace it if it has a muti function switch replace it fecond. it cost more than the dash switch. the other guy had a good poit to so listem to what he said and Will see if you need more help. Thanks for using fix-ya have a good day and thanks for rating.

Can not get my tail lights to work onk 1989 gmc truc

The front park lights work correct? If the front park lights work than there is not a problem with the light switch since the brown wire from the switch supplies power to the front park lights, front side markers, and the rear taillights. There should be twelve volts on the brown wire from the headlight switch with the connector plugged in and the park lights turned on. If this is true that there is a problem with the wiring to the back of the vehicle. A thorough inspection of the harness should reveal the problem. The dim break and blinkers support the above. High resistance also know as corrosion, in the wires or connections would cause this problem.

Drivers side tail light lighting up at night when head lights are on but break light not working on that side. passenger side not lighting up when head lights are on but break light working on that side....

You probably already know this, however the GMC 2002 Yukon Denali uses the Wagner 3157 (or equivalent) dual element bulb. The running light uses one element whereas the brake & blinker share the other element that burns brighter.

Check to ensure the correct bulbs are being used. Then check all wire harness connections. Since the blinkers function, then it sounds like the connections are good.

It really sounds like there is a bulb issue, so check that first, then let us know the results.
