SOURCE: 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt in "limp home mode" code 606

P0606 indicates Control module internal performance. GM is indicating of the replacement ECM. Once replacement is completed reprogramming the ecm is necessary. Locally a few auot parts stores can reflash the ECM.May want to check with a NAPA or Carquest for this otherwise dealer is probably the only option.

  • Using a scan tool, retrieve the percentage of remaining engine oil. Record the remaining engine oil life.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.

  • Disconnect the small engine control module (ECM) harness connector (3) from the ECM.
  • Remove the bolt retaining the large ECM connector to the ECM.
  • Disconnect the large ECM harness connector (4) from the ECM.

Notice: Control module damage may result when the metal case contacts battery voltage. DO NOT contact the control module metal case with battery voltage when servicing a control module, using battery booster cables or when charging the vehicles battery.
  • Use the retaining tab to release the ECM from the underhood junction block bracket.

  • Reverse process for installation

SOURCE: remove and replace Alternator on 2005 chevrolet

All you really need to do is disconnect the cables directly attached to the alternator, release the tension on the serpentine belt, and remove the bolts holding the alternator on. to install a new on, just to the opposite. you might want to loosen the tension first if that makes it easier to disconnect the wire(s) from the alternator. should take about 1-2 hours tops for $100.

2005 Chevy Cobalt will not crank, Help!

'Cranking' is the action of the engine spinning due to the starter motor. 'Firing' or 'starting' is what is supposed to happen after you let go of the ignition key. Many are confused by the two terms.

    Traction conrol

The traction control light is on to let you know that system is disabled. I would say the actual problem is a performance issue with the engine.
You should have someone scan the computer for trouble codes to proceed with testing. A 2010 model may still be under factory warranty.

What do I need to replace when my traction control light comes on? 2005 cobalt

When the light is on the code will need to be read to find out what is causing it. It is usually a sensor related problem. Have it scanned to determine what needs to be repaired. I hope this helps,

Light comes on service tracttion, then says traction off.

traction control should stay on and it should be a button on the dash somewhere (not sure where, my cobalt doesnt have one) but if it got shut off at some point its probibly just telling you its off becuase other than racing theres no reason to shut Traction Control off.

2003 cobalt traction control light on

traction control is controlled by a button on the dash, the only time the TC light comes on is when its shut off, indicating that you do not have traction control. try locating the button and pushing it and see if that fixes the problem, if not there is something wrong in the tc circuit (such as a wheel speed sensor) and would need further diagnosis.

Why does reduce engine power light comes on chevy

That is a hard problem to pin point without knowing what codes the computer has stored. It can be any number or sensors or engine problems.

You can go to most auto parts stores and they will pull the codes for you for free.
