Put the old trans module back in and check the large power feed wire at the fuse box on the center consul on the passenger side of the shifter consul, this is a known problem for having a poor electrical connector and will cause this problem. Wiggle this wire and you most likely will hear a relay click and the power steering message go out.

Try a global reset. Remove both battery cables and hold them together for 5-10 minutes. Hook back up and see if that takes care of the issue.

The replacement of the steering column assembly will require a setup procedure for complete repair. This is done via a tech 2 scanner. A good dealer technician should know this.

Eletronic Power Steering (EPS) is one of the latest ideas to eliminate the fluid type power steering systems. It eliminates the power steering pump thus adding miles per gallon.

SOURCE: Message: "POWER STEERING"

This is a major problem and I too have reported the issue to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Please take the time and do the same. They can be contacted online at safercar.gov or BY PHONE: Call the Hotline, Monday-Friday 8am to 8pm at (888) 327-4236 , TTY:(800) 424-9153.
Sep 04, 2009 If you read and google you will find over 200 more complaints. This is an issue only GM/Chevy can fix. Report it to www.safercar.gov and the Department of Consumer Affairs. I have been battling this issue for 2 months.

How to fix electric power steering in 2005 cevrolet colbalt

What's wrong ? light on ? Have it checked for codes ? GM had recall for the cobalt . Do you know it has electronic power steering ?
The electric power steering (EPS) system reduces the amount of effort needed to steer the vehicle. The system uses the body control module (BCM), power steering control module (PSCM), torque sensor, discrete battery voltage supply circuit, EPS motor, serial data bus, and the instrument panel cluster (IPC) message center to perform the system functions. The PSCM, torque sensor, not the EPS motor are serviced separately from each other or from the steering column. Any EPS components diagnosed to be malfunctioning requires replacement of the steering column assembly, also known as the EPS assembly.

Power steering failures on a 2007 chevy hhr while driving.

This is a known problem with the power steering which will probably require replacement of the power steering motor. The HHR uses an electric 12V DC motor to provide the power steering force, and they have started failing.

GM is recalling the Cobalt and other vehicles for this issue, but not yet the HHR. If you are out of warranty, you will probably be personally responsible for the cost of diagnostics and replacement.

You will probably need to contact your dealer unless you are able to replace the motor yourself. Sorry.

Power steering goes out

General Motors has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2005-2010 model year Chevrolet Cobalt vehicles;
2005 model year Pontiac Pursuit; 2005-2006 model year Pontiac G4; 2006 model year Pontiac G5 Pursuit; and 2007-2010 model year Pontiac G5
vehicles equipped with electric power steering. Some of these vehicles have a condition in which a sudden loss of power steering assist could occur at
any time while driving the vehicle. If the power steering assist is lost, a chime will sound and a "Power Steering" message will be displayed in the
Driver Information Center to inform the driver of the condition. Steering control will be maintained, as the vehicle defaults to a manual steering mode.
If power steering assist is lost, it may require greater driver effort at low vehicle speeds, for example, below 15 mph (25 km/h). Unless a driver
compensates for this additional effort, it may increase the risk of a crash.
