What would cause a 2002 Tahoe to die when you let off the throttle?

1) Bad/clogged Idle Air Control (IAC) especially if you have a oil and gauss air filter.
2) Air leak in the duct between the air filter and Throttle body.
3) Bad or clogged Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF).
4) Bad Throttle Position Sensor (TPS).
If no throttle cable the throttle body assembly..

How i clean the TPS sensor of a ford escape xls 2011 2,5 Lt l4 mecanic

it sounds like it's the idle air valve this controls the idle and drive rpm's when you step on the gas does it sometimes at idle go up & down by itself repeatedly? it could be something hitting the throttle and when you press down on the gas or shift it is knocked out lowering to normal idle/rpms, the tps is on the throttle body and is connected to the throttle lever and most likely right on the other side of the lever a little switch with a electrical plug on it search it so you can see what it looks like if you don't know already they are sealed and can not be cleaned you must replace it try checking with the car in park engine running and raise the idle by the throttle lever if it goes smooth up and down return to rpms that's not it if it races or sputters and then raises up that's it or it could be both units are blown out needing to be replaced

Sounds like you may have disconnected the battery. Does the rough idle only happen when the defroster or A/C is on? If so clean your throttle body with throttle body cleaner with the battery disconnected. When finished, drive it for 5 or so miles with the defroster / AC off to let the computer relearn the settings. This will solve your problem.

I HAVE A 2002 TAHOE AND THE MOTOR SURGES WHEN I START IT UP. IT DOES IT BAD WHEN THE AIR IS COLD.

hello thanks for choosing fixya.

one of the most common problems on cold start ups in colder weather is the intake gaskets leaking causing the engine to get extra air this will cause a rough running for a minute or two and once starts to warm up it smooths out. this sounds like what you are experiencing. I would have that checked. might also wanna try to clean the throttle plate this gets debris on it and will reduce the airflow rate and cause low idle and the computer tries to compensate for it and can cause a surge at idle but this is usually all the time.

Whenever my tahoe is idling or im going less than 15 mph it keeps trying to die

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
