If you are asking how to do this, it is not easy, it is very complex and takes a long time. The big points: Drain the coolant, disconnect battery, take off the intake manifold, take of the exhaust manifold, remove the head, clean the head and check for warp and cracks, clean the block and remove all debris from cylinders, install gasket, put head back on, put manifolds back on, replace coolant, change oil, connect the battery. You may have issues with bolts that break or strip out the block, you should send the head in to be checked, the valves and springs should be checked and those seals replaced, you need special tools and reference materials.

SOURCE: 2003 saab 9-5 replaced head gasket because of overheat

disconnect computer and drive it ,if it drives ok then nothing wrong with it,after test drive put your hand held plug in gizmo under wheels and drive over it for what use it is.Skimmed head and new head bolts ?you must have more money than sense didnt you check it with a straight edge first??then clean it with a flat bed sander.head bolts ?? more expense .only expense should have been head gasket and antifreeze with a tube of instant gasket.Have you put all the little vac pipes back on that open the flaps on the air con and left the one off on the valve between the inlet and exhaust manifolds. Also did you remove and grind in the valves ??

SOURCE: replacement of a head gasket on 2.5 liter nissan altima 2002

frajogag: First off, be aware that these bolts are "torque to yield" bolts (streach bolts). What this means is that instead of torqueing the head bolts to a specific torque specification, they are torqued down to a set spec and then tightened by rotating the bolts a certain angle, like 90 degrees. and all of them are turned the same amount.
This means that the shanks of the bolts must be checked to make sure they are not too thin (or the bolt has already stretched beyond limits and is prone to snap if used)
Here is how you check the bolts. Measure the bolt using a micrometer, at the base, or within the first 13mm from the end where it threads in. Then go to about 10mm before the threads end heading toward the top of the bolt. There should not be more than a 0.23mm (.0091 inch) or less difference or the bolt should be discarded.
Torque the bolts down to 98.1Nm ( 72.ft lb)
Looking at the head from the side, so you are looking at the full length from side to side, I will number the head bolts in this fashion.
#1 & 2 are directly in front of you and in the center of the cylinder head crossing it width wise.
#3&4 are to the left of #1&2, / #5&6 are to the right of #1&2
#7&8 are to the left of #3&4 / #9$10 are to the right of #5&6
Now, you have the sequence.
After the initial pull, back off all the bolts in the same sequence and then retorque them to 36 Nm ( 28 ft lb)
Using a torque angle wrench or having the ability to accurately judge turning angles. Rotate (clockwise) to a 75 degree angle. do this to all the bolts using the sequence I had provided.
Rotate the bolts (clockwise) 75 degrees again on all bolts in the same sequence. The proceedure is complete!

SOURCE: had to replace upper and lower intake gaskets

You may have had some water migrate into the cylinder through one of the intake runners causing a spark plug to foul. You will need to remove the spark plugs to see which one is fouled.

SOURCE: how i can change head gasket on chevy malibu 2002

Description below, but What is important is headgasket failure IS NOT the fault of the gasket, even though that is where the condition manifests...SOMETHING in steel is wrong, and at minimum warped and at worst: cracked. if you just change the gasket, you will fail again soon. Resurface the head you will have a reliable repair(prefer both because of slight compression change via mill cut of the head). this is the time to look at the valves, seats, guide looseness and valve seals.

So, the highlights of the project: you drain the coolant, remove all obstructing brackets (draw a map to get them back, or take lots of pics).

Then you pull the intake, valve cover(s), push rods and rockers, as needed, disconnect the exhaust manifold, or sometimes just the pipe, unbolt it and pull it off. there are more details, but all stuff needs to be disconnected in a manner that you can get it all back the exact same....

What is important

How to change Rear differential fluid for 2002 Chevy Suburban

You need to take out the bolts holding the cover on but leave 2 in it one on eather side then pop it open with a flat head screw driver make sure u got an oil pan under it first . Then replace your gasket and put the cover back on, as for filling it there is a bolt on the front side of the axle and its usually a square hole that a 3/8 drive rachet will fit in u stick the rachet in it and take it out. Then you fill it up with the suggested gear oil and the specified amount.

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

It's definitely a damaged head gasket. If the head gasket is damaged you'll have an oil and water mixture that's milky in appearance. You will need to have it replaced and be sure that you check if the head itself has cracks. If it has, a machine shop will be helpful.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Check engine light is on. I was told it is the EGR. How do I locate the EGR on this vehicle? The code is P004. 2002 Chevy Express with 5.7 ltr. engine.

http://www.autoguide.net/apf/chevy-engine_parts/express_2500-2002-air_intake-b7010_148259del.html well it should be near the front of the intake manifold, you will see the EGR valve ( which looks like the thing on the web site link). Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the two 10 mm head bolts, remove the lead coated gasket from the intake. Be sure to clean the surface of all evidence of the gasket, using care to not get any into the intake. Place the new gasket on the EGR valve, using the bolts to keep it in place, put the new EGR on the intake. Tighten the bolts up evenly, plug the connector back in, hope this helps

We changed the head gasket and put everything to gether now it doesn't want to idle right and stall on me in low idle

Vacuum leakage. Check throttle body mounting bolts, and intake manifold for proper seal. The new head gasket leaking could also cause this problem.

Location of the thermostat on a elantra 2002

follow the top radiator hose to the engine and that is where you will find the thermostate housing. drain the coolant completely then pul the housing off. make sure when you put in the new thermostat that you put it in that same way and direction the old one was. clean and dry housing before installing gasket and putting back to gether. refill the cooling system, and run with cap off for 30 min topping of the fluid as needed. run for 15 minutes with cap on making sure to keep an eye on the cars temp gauge. after done drive the car for at least 15 miles let it cool down and ceck the coolant level.

hope this helped
please rate well
