Lorrie Nelson, You have a few options. 1. Replace the console lid. (An auto recycle center is about 1/2 the cost of new) a.k.a. Auto Junk Yard. 2. Remove the light bulb from the socket. 3. If possible, wedge something into the button that activates the switch, toothpick or...something to prevent the switch from popping out.
There's a switch that when it closes it shuts it off find a way to put somthing in there to trip that switch

Solved it. Found a small shank screwdriver that fitted into the opening with a little bending of the plastic frame. managed to replace it with a new one without trouble. No further help needed. dave
