SOURCE: 2001 Chevy impala had ignition switch replaced,

Turn the key to "on" and let the light flash. It should stop flashing after about ten to twenty minutes. Once the light is on steady, turn it off, then start the car. I usually put another battery on jumper cables attached to the cars battery so it does not run down and die before the system re-arms.

You have two crank sensors. Was there an applicable trouble code? One should be down by crankshaft pulley. The other, on back side of engine, down low. One is two wire connector input to ignition module. The other is three wire connector, input to pcm.

Ignition control module on a 2001 Chevy Impala

There is a switch relay that plugs behine the ignition switch cylinder. You would have to take apart the dash console to take it apart to replace it.Also helps solve a few problem on the 2001 chevrolet impala, with heat gauage not working and a/c not blowing cold air anymore.Replacing it, should fix the problem with that.

Impala

Passlock Ignition - Chevrolet knows this is a problem, but their answer is "The Passlock Ignition is not our product, so we do not know how to fix it." Their fix??? Putting in a new ignition. Ouch! We had it done a year ago. Rumor is it will happen again eventually, and we are already dealing with a plethora of issues with our 05 Impala....Enough issues that I, a long-time Chevy owner, will not buy another chevy product. It is one thing for a bad model to come out...I can understand that...What i can not understand is GM not standing behind their shoddy product.... Poor customer service means I'm saying goodbye to Chevrolet.
