I had the same problem with my 05. I couldn't shift out of park. So, I checked brake pedal sensor, and wire linkage and they were fine. I took the center console apart and pulled out the shifter assembly and sure enough the problem was at the assembly. There is a plastic piece. that hooks to a small spring that snapped. I ened up renforcing it with a small clamp hose, and ever since its been functioning fine. I imagine I saved my over $500 bucks of repair cost and also wouldn't be surprize for others to have the same problem.

Same here! Last week my 2008 Chrysler Sebring was stuck in park. The dealer replaced the shifter assembly for $300 ($75 for the part/ $220 for labor)and one week later it's stuck in park again. This time they just replaced a fuse and said I must have a short in the electrical system. When I asked if I had paid $300 for a fuse last week, they said even though it's all connected it was a completely separate issue. Also, I had purchased an extended warranty but they said it wasn't covered because it was a shifter issue not a transmission issue. Isn't the part called the "transmission shifter assembly"?? That's what it's called online even though the dealer is calling it a "gear shifter assembly" on paper. Have I been bamboozled?

Have someone check to see if the brake lights come on when the pedal is depressed. If not, you need to replace the brake lamp switch.

Chrysler doesn't sell this part alone, they sell the whole Shifter Box for over 200 dollars. Autozone sells this piece(park lockout mechanism) and its made from metal, I replaced it on my daughters 300 a few months ago

Procedure is as follows: Just stick a long screwdriver through the square hole just above the shift gear knob, not where the rubber surround is but above that after you take off the silver chrome plate surrounding the shift knob of course. line the screw driver up with the little cable you will see down in there about 3 inches push that to the left and pull your shifter knob to the right YOU NEED TO HAVE YOUR FOOT ON THE BREAK while you do this, if it doesn\'t work its because the spring that is attached snapped the hook off the pink plastic part, try the following

1 Break down that center console!, if you need to move the car immediately to get home or to your garage or shop then its not a problem if you have a few tools, start popping the trim off the shifter assy, pull up and out on the small storage compartment to the right of the shifter, this will uncover a small pink lever (which will get you at least on the road but may not work if this is broken , it was on my daughters car), if it is you need to go deeper! Take out the rubber mat directly under the ash tray and cigarette lighter, this will expose two philips head screws, undo them, move through trim with a flathead and keep prying trim off until you have the shifter assy visible, if your shift knob is giving you problems, try sliding the very bottom chrome plastic trim down then the knob up as you spread the white plastic at the base of the leather.

2 Ok your down to the shifter, now with the key in and the car running press and hold the pink lever on the right side of the shifter, there is also second pink part( this is the cheap piece of junk that has you doing what your doing) on the front of the shifter assy, press this pink part as well and as always with your foot on the brake try to shift, you should be in good shape, now to limp back to your proper repair facility of choice (your house) Shift into drive and only reverse if you need to, when you park leave in neutral and hit the parking brake,

Took apart the shifter mech drill small hole in the plastic wing right below where it broke there is a gap there if you turn it over went to menards bought a new spring has to have enough tension to over ride the cable hooked spring in drilled hole and hooked the other end where it went before. Assemble shifter mech back together and test the spring tension. Cost is .78 cents and about an hour of work, mostly being careful not to break any think else, oh you have to remove the entire center console

SOURCE: Car stuck in Park, wont switch gears

check to see if the brake lights come on it may be a problem with a brake switch under the dash not letting the shift lock release. there may be a seperate switch just for it so check and see it there is two switches touching the brake pedal lever if the brake lights come on.

My 2005 chrysler 300 won't shift out of park

Do you have shift interlock on this vehicle, if so, you have to step on the brake before you can shift it. Usually the first thing you check is to see if brake lamps work. If that checks out ok, there may be an over-ride/by-pass button or lever, on the side of shift console, that you move. Hopefully, you can then shift it? Make sure parking brake is set. Safety is your responsibility.
I can't rule out other problems, at the moment.

The shift interlock device is broken in the shifter. If you can take the bezel off around the shifter you will see it. It is a pink plastic piece that allows you to shift in or out of park. They ALWAYS break on these cars. The dealer will replace your whole shifter. But you can just replace the pink interlock device.

2007 chrysler 300 stuck in park how to get it out of park

Could be the brake switch or the lock solenoid among other things.
You could try moving the shifter before you turn the key switch to the on position.
The brake pedal sends a signal to the shift lock solenoid to unlock it.
That circuit would need to be checked.

I have a 2005 Chrysler 300, As I shifted the car from park to reverse I heard and felt a pop in the gear shift. The gear shift moves but the car is stuck in low.

Go to the Prindle switch where the cable meets the transmission and check if it has not unhooked. Move the shifter all the way to the Park position and adjust/tighten.

My 2007 seabring won't shift out of park... Car

The car is probably on a steep hill and a lot of pressure is on the park pawl in the automatic transmission. If this is the case, a hard sudden pull should release it. Make sure the brake is on. When parking on a hill in the future use the parking brake before placing the lever in park.
