The crankshaft positions sensor is located behind the crankwheel on the
passenger side of the engine. In order to replace it or at least
examine it, a person would need to remover the crankwheel with a puller
that can be rented out at Autozone. Just ask for a harmonic balancer
puller. Remove the front right tire and place firmly on jackstands. The
crankshaft pulley WILL NOT loosen by just turning the bolt. This is a
two person job. Caddycorner to the starter, there is a small plastic
plate cover that covers the driveplate/flexplate. Remove the two bolts
and pull the cover off. Have one person position a screwdriver into the
ring gear teeth and have another remove the pulley bolt. Its EXTREMELY
TIGHT and the best way to remove it is with a large rachet and a breaker
bar. Once the bolt is removed, take the puller and position
accoridngly. The threaded holes are not on the surface but inside the
pulley itself. Place large bolt in center of the puller and place the
pointed or flat tip on center of the large bolt and place. Take three
very small screws or bolts that came with the puller and position all
three in place. Once all this is done begin turning the bolt in the
middle of the puller clockwise. This will take alot of arm strength and
anywhere from 15-30 min to do. Once the wheel has come off, carefully
pry off the sensor cover which is another piece of plactic. Once the
cover is off, carefully remove the sensor and examine or replace as
needed. Installation is reverse of removal. Hope this helps
