The electric motor that pulls the lock button up and down has failed, you will need to pull the door panel to replace it. Yes it is fairly common.

SOURCE: Volvo s40 rear doors wont open inside or outside

There is a child safety switch on the rear latch assembly that prevents opening from the inside handle. This switch may be on. Check your owners manual for more info.

Sounds like the keyless entry system is on the fritz. You will probably have to get a new brain for the keyless entry system.

1998 ford taurus door llock actuator

More info needed. Is this a front door or a rear door? If a front door, you need to remove the plastic interior trim panel for access. With the interior panel removed, temporarily reinstall the window switch to raise the window glass. Look inside the door at the lower rear corner. You will see the lock actuator there. It's mounted on a steel U shaped bracket. It has a black rubber boot over it and a rod going up to the door latch. You may need to remove the bolt holding the steel U channel which guides the rear of the window, for improved access to the lock actuator. Unsnap the retaining clip for that rod at the latch mechanism. The U shaped bracket is riveted into the door frame. You will need a 3/16" or 1/4" cobalt drill bit [available at Ace Hardware] to drill out the retaining rivet(s). Partially remove the actuator for better access to the electrical connector. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the actuator. Reverse this process to install the new actuator. You can use a Nyloc nut, washers and a bolt to mount the new actuator if you don't have a rivet gun and the proper sized rivet(s) to remount the new actuator.

Replace front door on 99 taurus

Every wire going into the door will have a connector inside the door that must be disconnected (windows, locks, mirror, etc.) Pull off the inner door panel and disconnect all the wires where they connect to a switch or a controller. Then push the wire harness back out the door opening where the wires go in. Now you can continue with replacing the door

2003 Ford Taurus Door locks making ugly noise

It sounds as if the lock solenoids are either very dirty, worn or some of both. I'd open up one of the door panels and locate the locking solenoid. Possibly clean it out with WD40 or such. If problem does persist you'll need to change the solenoids out (if this is the case I'd look for good units off a wreck, save youself a dollar or two)
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

2002 taurus passenger door lock

Mine did this. I went around to each door and sprayed a liberal amount of WD-40 in the latch, then open and closed each door about five times. It hasn't done it since. I think the switch inside was not moving freely.
