Engine revs remain high or increase when braking

I have a Renault scenic 1.9dci 2001. When braking, the car begins to slow but suddenly the engine will begin to pull against the brakes with considerable power. When the brake pedal is released the power drops and braking can be re applied. If the brake is applied and the car brought to a halt ( without releasing the brake) the revs will remain at 1500 until the brake is released.
A garage has cleaned the EGF valve but this has not resolved the problem.
Can anyone help please ??

Have you tried checking your throttle positioning sensor. Possible vacuum leak or check for carbon build up in the throttle body not letting the throttle valve shut all the way.

Rev counter is at 4500 when the engine is switched off and then jumps above that when revved up.

sounds like an engine sensor try the crankshaft sensor as the rev counter gets its info from that , might be helpful to get the OBD read by a suitable mechanic

Hissing sound from brake pedal of Renault Scenic 2001

Hi,
From your description this appears to be a Brake servo issue.
The brakes are assisted by a vacuum created from the draw off the inlet manifold, it gives assistance too the brake pedal pressure by a large tank/cylinder mounted on the Bulkhead/firewall.
I feel that the sound you a hearing is air being draw into the Brake Servo from the foot pedal seal and the reason for fluctuation in the engine is the vacuum from the inlet manifold is being upset.
Attention I suspect should be addressed to the Brake servo/pedal seal or gaitor.
I hope this clarifies your thoughts?
Please remember to rate my effort.
