You need to check and make sure you have fuel pressure, then check for spark at ignition, if those check out then check for pulse width at the injectors. That basically is the electrical signal which tells injectors to spray fuel. Use what is called a Noid light on injector pulse width check. that will eliminate all possibilities other than internal issues with engine. I.E. broken cam, broken timing components, obviously if all I mentioned checks out then run compression test. Good Luck

If this engine is a VORTEC then you may have a problem with the internal fuel system. Under the top plenum there is a fuel reg and poppet valves that inject fuel into the cylinders. Sometimes the tubes that run fuel from the reg to the valves can leak and cause your problem. This cannot be found with pressure check because this occurrs after the reg. PS fuel mileage will go down. Let me know if this helps.Moe
SOURCE: 89 chevy s10 blazer puff smoke out tailpipe when 1st started
the puff of smoke is one of 2 things, dampness in the exhuast from setting over night, like ice water on a hot day ,the glass draws miosture, this is harmless, the other is worn valve seals,a puff of gray blue smoke then it,s gone, harmless.,but if it smokes while your driving it after 2 minits you may need new positive check valve $5 part,if it uses excessive oil have it checked

loose vacuum line, check for same, also check the map sensor and the measure the fuel pressure, make sure its at spec

Sounds like a vacuam leak, best thing to use is cold start spray, by spraying the vacuam lines with this you will notice a change in the idle wherever the leak is at.
