the dash will have to be taken apart to fix the wires. sounds like some wires from the main harness got shorted out on some sharp metal under the dash. could have been there and finely warn through.
No, there is an oil light usually red shaped like an old school oil can or just says "oil". The check engine light is just a warning from the many sensors in modern engines that monitor fuel, air quality in the exhaust and in the intake, to many other things. You can go to many auto parts stores and they have code readers that they will plug into the vehicle. Auto Zone, NAPA and Schucks are a few. They'll tell you specifically what the problem is usually for free, so you'll buy the part from them. I also suggest you get a repair manual for the vehicle so you can do some minor repairs yourself. Haynes and Chilton are the two I use and you can get them conveniently at the auto parts stores. Good luck to you
LOL LOL, sorry but that was funny(the light description). Not sure but if its the engine warning light you can go to Autozone or Pepboys. They will scan any engine code/s for free. Good luck.
