DTC P0449: Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Vent Solenoid Control Circuit , your vent solenoid is opened or the wiring circuit is . The vent solenoid is by the charcoal canister at the gas tank .
P0449 Battery voltage is supplied to the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve. The control module grounds the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve control circuit to close the valve by means of an internal switch called a driver. Where is the Vapor Canister Vent Solenoid located on a 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500, 4.3L engine? And do you ave to remove the pick-up bed to access it, if it is on top of the tank?

No you don't have to remove the pick up bed to get at it. It's on the left frame rail along side of fuel tank !
Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle . Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister vent electrical connector, if equipped. Disengage the 2 vent valve pipe clips securing the pipe to the underbody.
Remove the clips from the underbody and discard.
Disconnect the vent valve pipe at the EVAP canister. Remove and retain the EVAP canister vent valve bracket mounting bolt. Remove the complete EVAP canister vent valve assembly with bracket attached and discard.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

I have a 2007 Chey silverado, and the two codes came up, P0449, and P0455. i know one is a large leak in the emissions system and not sure what the other one is. Should i get it hooked up to a fogger or...

  • P0449 - Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Vent Solenoid Control Circuit
  • P0455 - Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Leak Detected

  • Many times this is caused by the canister vent solenoid. You can definitely hook the smoke to it but quite often is just that particular solenoid malfunctioning.

I HAVEA 2006 CHEVERLET SUBURBAN 1500, AND THE CHECK ENGINR LIGHT STEAYS ON. THE CODE IS P0449; WHAT IS THIS AND WHERE IS IT LOCATED AT.

Hello. Your code indicates that your emission system is acting up. If you live in California, you might have a problem passing the next mandatory emmissions test. The PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the electrical circuit for the vent valve/solenoid in the evaporative emission control system.

    Definition:
EVAP (Evaporative Emission System) purge/vent solenoid circuit condition

    Explanation:
The solenoids and system wiring are monitored for opens or shorts

    Probable Causes
1- Purge or vent solenoids defective
    2- Check connector and wiring
    3- fuel, saturated vapor canister
    4- Failed EVAP vent solenoid

DTC P0446 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Vent System Performance

The vehicle control module (VCM) monitors the performance of the evaporative emission (EVAP) system by applying a predetermined level of vacuum to the EVAP system and monitors the vacuum decay rate. The VCM sets this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) if the vacuum decay rate is more than a predetermined value. The VCM monitors the amount of vacuum and the amount of pressure in the EVAP system by monitoring the fuel tank pressure sensor. For this DTC, the VCM turns ON both the EVAP purge valve and the EVAP vent valve when the Conditions for Running the DTC are met. This applies an engine vacuum to a closed EVAP system. The VCM turns OFF both the EVAP purge valve and the EVAP vent valve when the system reaches a correct amount of vacuum. The EVAP system should quickly RELEASE the vacuum in the EVAP system with the EVAP purge valve OFF and the EVAP vent valve OFF (open). This test indicates a blocked or restricted EVAP vent path if the EVAP system fails to release the vacuum quickly enough.
