Try getting the cable to release at the back of the drums. They could be froze up. Unlikely being a 2010. But you never know. You should never have to or ever beat the drums on. If you released the slack adjusters and the E brake is working, The drums will go on easily. Then adjust the slack adjusters to have a little drag on the drum. If you really believe it is the E brake causing the problem. Cut the cable as close as you can to the drum. This should release it. If you didn't take the slack out of the adjusters, then you have to sacrifice the drums and cut them in half or quarters to get them off. Not a fun job there. Cut them from top to bottom first.

You should have backed off the e-brakes before you installed new shoes. if you had to hammer the drums on that should have been a clue that you did something wrong. you will have to get the drums off some way and check to make sure you didn`t install something in the wrong way.

to remove a stuck brake drum what I do is. there is a couple of holes in the drum a size 10mm nut screw hole. get two 10mm bolts screw it in the two OPPOSITE holes and screw in at the same time until the drum is free. we call this screws extractor. Check for any damage in the shoe and other parts because you are force extracting the drum

SOURCE: remove stuck brake drum

you have to get a brake adjusting tool and a screw driver....

put the brake tool in and locate the adjuster wheel, use a screwdriver to release the locking prawl, its tuff but doable.

If there are no access openings to the adjuster, either in the drum or backing plate, then you need to work it off with a few pry bars

SOURCE: Is there a trick to removing rear brake drums on a

The only trick is banging it off. Drums are known to be "frozen" on or stuck. Honestly, the only way to get them off when they are stuck is to carefully hammer it off. Below is what is required to remove and replace the drum....and a picture of your system:

Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Remove the wheels.
  3. Remove the brake drum from the axle hub.
To install:
  1. Install the brake drum.
  2. Install the rear wheels, tighten the wheel lug nuts.

SOURCE: cant remove rear brake drum off 96 camry idailed

Providing you didn't go the wrong way with the adjuster screw, you should be able to get a couple of screwdrivers in between the drum and the shoe from the back. Just pry it out a little at a time and keep working your way around. The drum could also be rusted on to the axle hub face. Give it a crack with a hammer and see if it moves around the studs at all. Some wd40 or other lube may help. Spray it in around the wheel studs.

check that the shoes you used are the same width as the ones you took off or the drums have been machined to the width of the new shoes.. As shoes come in varying widths for different models of the same vehicle ( station wagon and utility shoes are generally wider than sedan shoes) it is possible that you were supplied with the incorrect items.

How do i take off the brake drums on a 2003 chevy cavalier

After you remove the tire, the drim should slide off. If it doesn't then try using a rubber mallet and gently tap on the outside edge as you pull on it. Sometimes you also need to tap on the drum in the center part. I have sprayed penetrating lubes like WD-40 or PB Blaster into the seam at the center. You may also have to back off the parking brake cable or even use the adjuster to back off the shoes.

When I replace rear shoes I always replace the mounting hardware. You didn't mention if your shop did this or not so I would suggest doing so. While there, inspect wheel cylinders. If they're wet or 1 side sticks out farther than the other then you may have an issue with a faulty wheel cylinder. If you notice a pulsing or surging movement when you apply brakes you may have a warped drum - other than these, A hands on diagnosis is needed.
Hope this helps!!

I removed the rear wheel from my 2004 toyota corolla and I now have access to the rear drums. How do I open the drums, and what are the proper procedures for replacing the stock shoes of the rear drum...

the drum should come off, if they are stuck, sometimes a few whacks with a hammer gets them loose, or sometimes you can thread a 8mm bolt in the threaded holes to press them out. just do one side at a time and you can refer to the other side for reference

Check that the brake shoes are adjusted correctly and that the new shoes ar'nt to thick. It is always better to skim the drums to fit new shoes if needed.Poor wheel cylinder will cause no brakes at that wheel unless it is siezed and not releasing

Cant fit drums over pads

You need to retract the brake shoes, via the center adjuster mechanism. As your old brake wore, the adjuster moved the shoes outward. Simply move the adjuster to retract the shoes, then slide the drum on. Then, readjust the rear shoes.

REAR BRAKES

i think your aware of how to change the brakes if im right and your problem is the rusted drum doesnt want to come off the only way to get the old drum off is to remove adjuster plug from behind drum dustshield and adjust the shoes so that there not even close to the braking area of the drum then try and wiggle the drum off of the assembly if it is not coming off then you need to use the old nylon hammer on the drum and i mean you must hit the drum from side to side trying by hand to wiggle the drum off its a tight fit and you need to strike the drum on the face not on the fins not wanting to damage with persistance and care and patience you will eventually be able to remove the drum to service brakes take care and good luck with it
