I recently pressure-washed my 87 s10 engine and undercarriage and ever since then my headlights are dim and flicker when truck is running and engine dies down and spits and sputters when i put any load on the electrical system. no probs before washing it and have been through all wires and connections under hood upgraded the big three wires a little better not much difference. stumped! the shift light also stopped working same time. might be coincident might not. any insight or experience would be greatly appreciated.

check for loose or cracked vacuum lines, and/or the rotor. It may not be making consistant contact.

Sounds to me like fuel delivery issue. If i am correct this engine has the injector unit inside the intake manifold. When the engine needs the extra fuel for accel or loads it just isnt there. You are going to have to do a fuel drop test to determie if the correct amount of fuel is being released for the amount of time the injector is open.

open the intake manifold by removing the air cleaner and or hose look on the back side of the plate to see if there is varnish and gum if there is you need to do a top engine clean, You must understand that running that kind of gas will cause varnish and carbon buildup on the pistons and valves. This causes the knock sensor to not to be able to adjust for compression change. It can only advance the timing 50% once the carbon build up is to much it will start knocking. If you want to receive instructions on how to fix this then rate me post a comment and I will give you the two page answer on how to do this. Unless you want to keep buying parts. your choice. I will no longer post it here as I see some think they can just take my answers and copy them.

check your fuel filter, take an air compressor and blow air through the "in" end if no or little air is coming through then just replace the filter, if fuel filter is ok then try a fuel additive to clean your injectors which are a very common problem when the engine gets gunky build up on them
