I have a 1993 chevy cavalier the i just changed the plugs and wires on, checked the fuel filter and pump...both appear fine and not clogged...the firing order is correct both on the engine and coil packs so i am sure that is not the problem...checked the boots and the plugs for spark and they both have spark....so i feel that is not the problem....i am totally stumped as to what could make this car not start...it ran rough before i changed the plugs and wires but now won't run at all...any help would be appreciated
I have a 1992 cavalier. i changed one of the fuel injectors. i didnt take the fuel pump fuse out or disconnect the battery etc... now my car wont start!!! Plse help...
Spray aerosol carb cleaner into the throttle body while an assistant tries to start the engine. If it runs for a few seconds then quits, you are not getting fuel into the engine. Check the fuses. You might have blown the fuse for the fuel injectors (possible if you removed any of the injector harnesses) or the fuel pump relay.

Did you try the carb cleaner? I use it as a fuel substitute. The engine will run on it. Have you used a NOID lite to check for proper electrical signal at the fuel injector harness? All the injectors are supplied positive power via a single fuse. The ground for each injector is controlled by the computer. Make sure you have power and ground at the injectors. The ground should turn on and off as controlled via the computer. A NOID lite will blink as you crank the engine over.
Great fuel pressure is of no use if the fuel injectors don't open.

A NOID light is a simple tool used by mechanics specifically to test for power and ground at the fuel injector wiring harness. It has terminals which will fit directly into the electrical socket for the fuel injectors. They can often be found at the local auto parts store. Be sure to get the correct one, it will fit most GM vehicles. Not expensive and a very handy tool to have. I purchased an entire set from the local Matco Tool man years ago. Basically it's a test lamp for the fuel injector circuit (some are 12 volt and some are 5 volt) Not sure which yours is. You could use a common volt meter to check the voltage at the injector harness connector. If it's 12 volts, you can use your common 12 volt test light and see if it flickers on and off when you crank the engine.

One thing that really irks me is that people ask for help and just ASSume that I can read mind, have Xray vision or can see for miles and miles. Give me a clue, which engine does your Cavalier have??? It makes a BIG difference on where the injectors are located.
Charlie
Unfortunately, the fuel injectors are very hard to access on your engine. They are located near where the lower intake manifold runners (one for each cylinder) connect to the cylinder head. The shape of the upper intake manifold (commonly called the plenum) and throttle body tends to block access to them. Often it is necessary to remove either or both the throttle body and/or the plenum, for access. :-(
The wiring harness connectors attach directly to each fuel injector.

PS If you buy yourself a repair manual, it will contain a lot of drawings and photos which will help you.
You mentioned that the car ran rough before you tuned it up. I have seen the ignition coils on these engines fail such that only one of the two spark plugs does not fire. A buddy with a 1995 S10 2.2 4 cylinder had exactly that problem. It turned out that the #1 cylinder did not get any spark, yet the #4 cylinder (on the same coil) worked perfectly.

If it was not for bad luck, it seems that you would have no luck at all. Sorry for your misfortune.

we have checked the fuses and they are all good...haven't tried the carb cleaner but willing to try...we are also gonna unhook the battery and see if maybe the computer needs to be reset.....if all the above doesn't work then i will be back to post...
at this point we have it down to either the fuel injector or fuel pressure regulator....the only other possibility could be the fuel filter but when we tested it out it ran fuel right through so have a hard time believing it's that...any help would be appreciated
we did try the carb cleaner and it did run....have no NOID lite so can't really test that.....and this is our only vehicle so can't even get one......like i said the fuses are all good so i know it's not that....totally stumped at this point so.....until i can get my hands on a tester or NOID lite i am pretty much dead in the water....thanks for all the help Charlie
and what is a NOID lite anyway???
might be able to use volt meter....can u tell me pretty close to exactly where the fuel injector harness is??? just to make sure i have the right one???? if not no worry will just have to research
sorry forgot that...it has a 2.2 engine and like i said 1993 ....i really do appreciate all your help.....the throttlebody sits directly on top of the engine block as u stand in front of the car...the air cleaner line runs directly off the front of the throttlebody towards the grill...again i am really sorry
ya your probably right...but again this is my only car soooo....no way out to get one...LOL...thanks again for all your help....without it i am sure i wouldn't have gotten as far as i did today....again thanks
Charlie----Just thought i would let you know that everything you wrote and the time that you took is very much appreciated....unfortunately the end result was taking it to a shop and finding out that the timing had jumped.....to pricey of a fix for such an old car....looking for a new one.....again thanks for all your help and time....Sandi
