Truck works fine in R, 1, and 2 nothing in 3 or D. 2006 Silverado V-6 automatic 1/2 ton

Yesterday it made a bang noise when put in drive to go home, using 2nd gear drove to Daves Auto repair. Hooked up did not show any computer error, but driving it back and forth a half mile or so, 3rd and drive started to work. This morning let it warm 10 minutes, then driving 20 miles to work, about 5 miles left it did it again. Nothing in 3, or D. Does wine in 2 though. Want to drive 25 miles to transmission shop after lunch-is that ok?

Hey Anon, Yes, drive it to the tranny shop..plan to leave it... sounds like you are in for a rebuild.. this is typical for GM RWD transmissions.. I have seen TOO many do this same thing,, (I have had TWO in for this... vehicles I inherited that were not maintained)..GM transmissions on RWD's must have the fluid and filter changed every 50K - 75K and a complete fluid exchange and filter replacement every 120K -150K MINIMUM for them to last..usually cost around $1200 - $1400.. sorry.. Good luck!

Change your fuel filter, it may have gone it's life time and is getting to dirty to let fuel flow properly. Your fuel pump to may be getting weak, if the fuel filter is dirty the pump works harder and heats up and could be over heating the fuel pump relay too. The fuel pump relay i believe is in the glove box behind a panel that say relay, there should be (3) in there and the middle one is the fuel pump's. switch then around after you change the fuel filter and if you get a chance, check your fuel pressure at the shredder valve. Good luck and hope this help's if there is a Auto Zone around you, you can ask to use the fuel pressure gauge to see what fuel pressure you have and they'll have the step by step instructions on how to do it and takes about 5 min to do and will have the fuel filter and step by step to replace that too. Keep me posted, be glad to help.

SOURCE: Need to repair manual transmission gears or rear

If the trucks moves in 1st gear it wouldn't be the rear end. In a manual transmission 2nd and 3rd are on the same shaft. If you are mechanically inclined or have a good friend that is go on-line to faxonautoliterature. Follow the instructions on the home page and for between $25 and $40 you can pick up a GM service manual for your transmission that will help you repair your transmission in stead of replace. They also list a service manual for the complete truck for $129 if you want. Hope this helps.

Clanking noise coming from Allison Transmission on a 2001 Chrevrolet Silverado 8.1 Liter engine

this does sound like theres a loose line tapping the engine/frame,during warm up the engine idles faster which could make it vibrate faster causing the the clanking or tapping noise,if this has started after trans fluid change, then check the lines running from the trani to radiator sometimes the service person might bang into something causing plastic clips that hold the lines to break, try getting under it and have someone start the truck and listen to see where it's coming from also hold the lines & see if the noise stops, the service guy could have unbolted something & never put the bolt back causing the clank ex.line may have a clip holding it thats bolted to the trani pan ?good luck

I have 1998 Chevy Suburban 4wheel drive half ton. Was driving out of parking lot when a loud bang frome the rearend. The car still kept going without further noise. When I got home I found out it would go...

If it slips in reverse and 3rd gear the direct clutches are damaged or the 3rd gear /direct piston is cracked. If 3rd is solid but you lost reverse instantly then the reverse servo or band broke. If this is the case you can tell by putting the truck in manual low one, take off and get up to about 25 mph, normally when you let off the gas your truck would compression brake, with the low reverse band inop truck will coast like its in neutral. If this is the case before pulling the trans, drop the pan and pull the low servo cover (round with 6 bolts w/10 mm heads) If it is broken you can easily fix it by buying a new one for under 30$ from the dealer.

It is very common for the reverse band to break. Probably time for a rebuild.
