P0335 and P0336 Engine crank sensor malfunction
To test this code, have a visual inspection of the location and wirings of the crank sensor. If the engine has a cam sensor, you might mistook it as the crank sensor (it is a good idea to contact ATS that can research this for you). Check the sensor wires for insulation making sure it is getting a voltage signal as shown in the wiring diagram. Sometimes, the wires itself is soaked with dirty oil causing the sensor to fail. If OK, check the engine timing belt system for any slack which can also cause the sensor to throw in the code. If all of these prove OK, remove the crank sensor and check it for resistance as compared to the standard specs. Lots of times, if the sensor probe end is contaminated with oil or cracked, this can only be revealed after the crank sensor is removed

The crank sensor is on the front of engine, it is triggered of the crankshaft balanced

I have a 1998 Mercury Villager and when the engine gets hot it starts to stutter and run bad. We have changed just about everything on it. We did get a code for the knock sensor once but we haven't gotten...

do not ever change the knock sensor unless you have $600 to throw away for nothing. You need a new distributor. teh cam sensor is going. it's in the dist. & not serviceable.
Buy a Rich Porter reman on ebay for $200. They will run cold whent hey start to fail, tehn totally fail.

I have a 1997 Mercury Villager with many miles. We get poor gas mileage. The check engine light is on. I want to replace the 02 sensor but cannot locate it on the engine. Is there a link with photo of physical location of the sensor and what are the steps to replace it?

Location of knock sensor on 97 mercury villager

it's in the valley of the engine. Do not ever replace it even if you get a code. A knock sensor will NEVER casue a driveabiity problem. It only retards timing 6 degrees if it senses spark knock. It also sets a code if an engine mount is broken and the engine rocks up and down on acceleration.

Code reader knock sensor where is it located 1998 mercury villager

According to the Haynes manual it is under the intake manifold, Upper and lower intake manifolds must be removed for access. If you go to Auto Zone, they have the sensor and can give you the step by step instructions to replacing the knock sensor with common tools. Good luck and hope this help.

My 98 villager have check engine light on with code PO135. I replaced bank 1 senor 1. after driving little bit same code came back again. then I replaced thermostat (the metar was always low, now it is ok)...

go to this website where there are files that will help you diagnose your issue.

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/villagerquest/

P0135 is for heater circuit portion of the oxygen sensor circuit, not the sensor itself. It would just mean it's not heating the sensor so it will just delay the sensor controlling fuel trim until a few minutes later.
