When cold, it idles rough, revs high then low! After warmed up it runs fine

My 1988 Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 350tbi runs rough and sometimes quits when first started? After it warms up it runs fine, rough idle while cold?

    12 ht motor runs rough cold start smokey uses oil seems to stop smoking runs properly warm idle still rough even when warm no loss of power rus fine at higher revs than idle , valve seats ?.

Make sure all the glow plugs are working.

If it runs high when you first start it then mellows out,, theirs no problem , all of our chevys do that.... but if its sputtering or you hear a quiet popping noise check spark plugs

High low idle, rough idle stalling
If it's surging, make sure your radiator is full. Do a tune up, plugs, wires, etc. Put some fuel injector cleaner in your fuel tank. On a cold start the vehicle compensates for being cold by adding fuel. Once it warms up the computer tells it to quit adding extra fuel. If it is a bad sensor of sorts, check engine light should come on.
