Wont turn over unless pressure is applied to gas pedal. other times starts fine. other times it seems to continue to try and turn over after I stop turning the key

I had a similar problem on my 1999 Grand Prix, 3.8l engine. I replaced the IAC Motor (Idle Air Control) that attaches into the throttle body. After disconnecting the battery, the computer goes into a learning process. It stalled once, but now seems to be running correctly. The codes set were Engine Misfire, which could be anything. I also bought a crank sensor, which is suspect, but I didn't install it.

I have had the exact same problem. There is an ignition lock that probably went off. There is a fuse box under the hood. The fuse that says ignition on it pull it out and put it back in. This should reset the ignition lock. Its a safety feature because the car thinks that someone was trying to tamper with it.

I am having the exact same problem with my 97 sunfire! LOL Help! I heard it might be the coil pack or the fuel pump? I hope not the fuel pump. It got towed today...
