It's holding a music CD, that I borrowed from our public library, captive! How can I make it release the CD? Car owner's manual says nothing about trouble shooting the CD player. There's no brand name on the dashboard CD player (orignial equipment, Toyota 2000 Camry) Toyota dealer wants $89 just to look at the problem. Thanks, if you can help!
I had this say problem with my 2000 solara. Here is the fix, remove one of the car battery terminals for a couple of mins (3-4mins). The reattach the battery terminal back. This would make your cd player and car clock reset. once you start your car you should be able to eject the cds. You'll just need to reprogram all your preset radio station. Hope it helps

It worked for me, the toyota dealer wanted $100 for labor and 380 for repairs for something that took me 5mins to do.
Same problem with a Toyota Camry 2003. CD locked in. Toyota dealer asked $500 + labor to change it. Just removed two fuses labeled Ras 1 and Rad 2 and placed them back. The CD was immediately rejected and the CD works like a charm. It took me less than 5 minutes.
Several people mentioned unplugging the battery cables. This is what actually caused or started my problem, as I was told on a Youtube video to do this to reset my codes so I could get my 'Check Engine Light' to go off so I could pass an emissions test in Georgia. After I replaced the battery cable, I lost my idle and the car would shut down every time I took my foot off the gas for even a second. The CD player started clicking after all my electronics shut down for a second. They flickered off and the CD player started clicking. Nothing here that I've tried works at all.

This looks to be a hardware issue. Any technician having knowledge of reparing CD players would be able to get the tray out. There is a pin hole in which you have to insert a pin and pull the tray to get the CD out. In case you are not able to do it yourself, approach a music repair shop who would disconnect your player and get the CD out.

With the key in the ACC position (so the stereo is on, but the engine isn't), press eject and listen to see if you can hear gears whirring. If so, it's trying but isn't progressing the disc. Use a pairof forceps to gently grab the edge of the disc and pull while it tries to eject. If it DOESN'T whir, let me know and we'll go from there.
the lack of noise indicates that it's either SERIOUSLY jammed or it's a problem in the circuitry that controls the mechanisms. At this point, the only real solution is to have it serviced by a repair shop. At the very least, they will be able to get the disc out. Call around to Electronics repair shops as they will likely be SIGNIFICANTLY less expensive than the dealership (and faster....).

Remove the battery terminal for 5 seconds and then put it back on, the cd changer resets and you can get you discs out.
i just did this on my 2000 toyota solara and everything is working again

I had the same problem with my 2005 tundra and I tried the fixes mentioned in the thread, disconnecting the battery and removing fuses, bu they did not work.
What did work was turning in the CD player and inserting a thin piece of cardboard into the CD slot and this apparently triggered the auto eject in the CD player. I cannot explain it but it did fix the problem and eject the CD. I reinserted the CD and it works just fine.
Thank you! This worked on my Toyota just now. I used another CD and just held it there until it allowed it to go in, but held onto it so I wouldn't lose that one too. After a minute of it being mad at me it finally coughed up the original CD.

Otherwise, if you don't have some needle-nose pliers or tweezers, try using something else that's thin, with a handle, like a butter knife or a putty knife, and wrap a thin layer of tape around it (making sure that the sticky side is UP, and the tape is secure so that it won't slide off at all; also, it should be a rather strong adhesive) then stick it inside of the player and push down and pull out; hopefully your CD will come with it! - This method worked for me, (I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand AM) however, now my CD player won't "****" in any other CD's and I don't know how to fix it :( Any suggestions?
Hi i got a 2005 grand am gt, i only had it about for 2 months and the other day i put a cd in an now it wont eject. i tried almost everyway possible,the tweezers wont get it out neither will the tape to a butterknife. i cant find how to take it apart..any answers just email me at [email protected]

SOLUTION (for me anyway).
- disconnect battery for 3 minutes
- reconnect battery
- insert key and turn to power electronics on
- allow stereo to go through its reset process
- continue to allow stereo to reset (you should be able to hear the cds trying to reset).
- when you can't hear the cds reseting, hit load or eject and allow stereo to struggle with the discs. Be patient, the stereo will do the work
- I had to do all steps 3 times but sure beat pulling the head unit out. One of the resets fixed 3 of 4 cds. My 3rd reset fixed the 4th.
Usually for any cd device with this fault you knock power off on player keep your finger on eject button while switching cd player on should come straight out then
If only a reset is necessary to get a cd out of a player what kind of trouble you think should caused that maybe, suggest a little drive belt for the jump-mechanism to eject the CD out of the player , there must something goes wrong in the electrical timing the motor don,t stopped in case of this if the micro switch can not been on time reached by the resist of the tray mechanism to get the stop signal on the end because the mechanism inside hangs and the belt is continuously slipped by a dirty limp or weak rubber belt inside the cd player for the ejection mechanism ,all parts are timed on each other push in that cd and it goes timed and is starting auto focus of the laser and that start drive the spindle motor to read the table of contents first to be come in idle , so the trouble is in this caused maybe in first case for a longer time and will after a while repeat "damned again" for problems where you can think , :If it lingers remove power off" yes then is in most cases the problem solved, but nots what caused this : you must determine where the cause is in case of an electro-mechanical error oft by the mechanical resist when you know that water dew moisture dust or dirth can be are the first thing what caused in this then it may be that a problem after a reset by temporary electrical interruption and that the problem yet again smooth returns then you can repeat the electrical disconnection or (only if you are able to handle) remove that player and clean also the microswitches inside replace the drive belt for mechanical ejection.( little advise to get a fraction thicker belt for this . for those who need to get the cause out of the player itself. its only a patient thing to do because of some things to handle are some people obliging to handle this .

Cds stuck in car stereo- error message pops up, advice?
I have a 2003 Toyota Tundra with a 6 disk CD player, factory stereo. I have all 6 cds in and "ERROR" now appears on the screen, the cds won't play, and will not eject. I have had this problem for 2 days and have not been able to get them to do anything. I don't see a pin hole anywhere to "eject" the disks. Any ideas? Is my stereo broken?

This indicates a malfunction of the disc changer functions.
A: Press the reset button on both the changer and the remote. The reset button on the changer is located on the front panel of the unit, It can beactivated with the tip of a pin.
B: If the unit does not operate after resetting it, remove the magazine by inserting a business card between the magazine and the mechanism. The lock lever will disengage to allow the magazine to eject.
C: Make sure all cds are in the magazine, a CD is found lodged in the carriage, remove all cds from the magazine and reinsert the magazine into the changer.
D: Press the eject button. This should cause the loged CD to move from the carriage into the empty magazine. The magazine should automatically eject and normal operation will return.
I Found this on another site as I have the same problem too. 2003 Tundra. I will try the disconnecting the battery first.
I had a cd jammed in my 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix and when I took it out I couldn't get the cd player to insert or eject the cd. I took a chance and turned off the car and removed the fuse for the radio and put it back in. Once I put it back in the cd player worked just fine!
I've purchased a Toyota Camry 2003 with in-Dash CD changer, the first CD I loaded and played for a minute got stuck.
The problem was solved and the CD was ejected after I used a small tweezer in the CD opening the I pressed Eject button and luckily the CD went out!
Now I wonder whether I can play another CD and face the same problem again or just leave it like that !

I tried it this morning, careful to have the key in the ACC position and pressed eject and there was no sound of "whir" --- there was only silence. Tried with the radio button pushed in for "on" and "CD" pressed and also with radio button pressed to "off" position. In all cases, complete silence, no whir. Thank you so much for trying to help. I look forward to hearing step two.

I had the same problem with a 2000 tundra. Brought it to the dealer. They didn't charge me for the diagnosis but didn't fix it either. My options were either ~ $350.00 to maybe fix it or $550 for a new radio. No private electronics shops would touch the OEM equipment (other than to replace it).
I have a Tundra with the 6cd player...one cd loaded fine but as I attempted to load a second it would not load and the first one will not eject..seems like the ejector mechism is stuck at the top of the cd player...system says error 3.

I have a 2004 Toyota Tundra with a 6 disk CD player, factory stereo. When I press insert I get WAIT prompt for 10 secs but never get the LOAD prompt.
I have a 95 Toyota Avalon with the 3 cd changer. It wouldn't play or eject cd's anymore and the radio was at very low volume. I got tired of it and resorted to pulling on the front of the cd changer with a pair of pliers. It came out and the radio started working at full volume! Haven't tried to play a cd yet, but I think if I just do 1 at a time it should work.
