When starting it sounds like it has no power to start, good battery and starter. sometime it starts in one or two try's and some times it take 10!! any clue to what it could be?
I have very similar problems and after trying to start my car a few times it doesn't turn over at all. The radio and windows and everything still work, but no sound or anything when trying to start the engine. I had my car towed and looked at a few weeks ago and by the time it was in the shoo (about 8 hours later) the car started right up. They told me nothing was wrong. I got my car back and this just happen again the other day. I let me car sit for about 8 hours again, went back and it started. Now it is not starting again...any help?I have very similar problems and after trying to start my car a few times it doesn't turn over at all. Looks like your starter is troubling so change your starter but before changing see if you are starting with the steering lock and also check your battery if not down
Did you try starting in neutral? Some vehicles have electronic transmission lockouts that will go bad and prevent ignition cycling even when it is not in gear.
That sounds like a starter selenoid problem. The selenoid is what the key switch engages to supply power to the starter. I am not sure of the location but many are on the fender well under the hood. I hope that helps.
Take the starter off for testing. If the lights were normally bright, and went dim when key was in cranking position, it means the start circuit is working-battery power is going to the starter, but it won't do anything. The starter motor is probably bad.
Good luck.
it sounds like the starter is going out even though it may have checked out ok it still could have a bad spot in it also check all your connections. Also when it does this put a test light on the signal wire at the starter (the small wire) and make sure your getting power there when the key is in start position. If there is power but no start you got a bad starter provided you got battery power to the starter too
Everything you are describing leads me to believe the battery is the culprit. Not enough storage in it after it sets, when it does start the alternator has to work at max to recover from the start making it idle rough, and the fact that it starts good warm tells me that you definitely need a battery. You can confirm this by boosting the truck the next time it starts "just clicking",if it goes with a boost then you will know for sure that the battery is done in.
Check the battery +12v power connection to the starter is in good order,
Check the ground connection between the battery negative and the engine/starter motor is robust and intact.
If no problem with above, replace the starter motor.
Sometimes the starter sylinoid goes out. If its a clicking noise its the battery. If nothing try the starter. Sometimes you can tap the starter with a hammer and its good if that is not it test the starter. Start here before you go to anything else. Its the starter most likely.
Definitely sounds like a starter. When a bad starter is cold, it will start the car. After riding around for a while or after several starts in a row, the starter heats up and won't start without a boost. Since you've ruled out the battery and alternator, I'm positive a new starter will solve your problem. Good Luck!
