I just bought a 1997 mercury tracer wagon with a 2.0 engine. We have a 1.9 engine that we thought came out of a 1997 ford escort. however from what I understand from wikipedia that did not have 1.9s in 1997s. Is this true? And will it still fit?

I looked at interference engine list.

1.8L--1.9 L and 2.0L sohc are not interference engines. I can only go by the database info.

Replacement of oxygen sensors on a 1997 Mercury Tracer LS. Sell the Tracer and buy a Ford Focus, or 2010 Chevy Cobalt, or a new Chevy Cruze, or a Ford Fiesta. This solution is best if your Tracer has over 130,000 miles on it.

check your ignition switch, by turning the key back and forth, do not start the car; do this couple of time; next check your relays, it may be sticking and not clicking back to off position. pull it out and tap on it and see if it reset. next check the headlight switch, it can be faulty sits on acessory setting.

I have the exact same problem with a Ford Escort. Anybody have an answer?

On a ford Escort there are only 2 fuse boxes, one is located on the driver side, under the instrument panel, and the other under the hood.

engine coolant temperature sensor unit!? you say you had a thermostat issue some times if you over heat these the switch above might cause malfunction! I just spent 7 hours on relays!! with engine running un plug coolant sensor temp switch if your fan comes on you have no relay issues!! or ground problem keep in mind this switch tells the system the temperature then when reached sends signals to relay the fan to come on! when I unplugged mine fan ran plugged it back in off!!! replaced switch works great this is the true way to test don't get$$ it out hope this helps you out also be sure you have no air locks in your cooling system and you properly bleeded out all air sense you changed thermostat.John
