Air fuel mixture may be it. Also it could be a bad catalytic converter. Also the timing may be the culprit.

SOURCE: WHERE'S THE OXYGEN SENSOR IN MY CELICA VVTI?

Hi,
can't tell you exactly where it is, but it will be on the first section of the exhaust (usually within a fooy or so of the manifold). There are a few types of Lambda sensor but they basically do the same thing. If you are a bit of a handy man, consider buying a universal sensor off ebay, they are much cheaper and just as good. You will have to use your original connector, so you'll need a pair of snips and some electrical connectors (scotch blocks etc)
In your ebay search type "universal lambda sensor"

hope this helps.......Dave

SOURCE: Toyota celica vvti key programming

Put key in ignition. Hold down one of the key buttons and hold it down while you turn the ignition on. Door locks should pop up and down. Then release button and remove key.

Toyota celica vvti 2000

The first thing is to have the computer scanned for codes. the check engine light should also be on with the engine idle too high.Scanning for codes is the best first step in finding the problem.
this could be caused by a vacuum leak or bad throtle postion sensor or mass air flow sensor and more.Go to an auto zone or other auto parts store ,they will scan the codes and give you a print out of the codes. get me the codes and i will try to help you solve this problem.

Check engine light came on recently. Car then

The exhaust system has two 02 sensors One before the cat converter and one after. The #2 02 behind the cat converter is the one that trips the light if emmisions are unacceptable coming out of the converter. The #1 or front 02 sensor monitors and constantly adjusts the fuel to stay within parameters. If the #2 tries to compensate for an inefficient converter and it conflicts with the #1 02, the ebgine will run poorly due to either too rich or too lean fuel adjustment. Have the #2 02 sensor replaced and the converter checked. Good luck

Replacing a rear wheel bearing Hub on a 2001 celica 190?

I had this same problem myself. The hub is a sealed unit and must be purchased as a whole assembly to the tune of around $400 from Toyota. Long story short I never replaced my hub. The problem turned out to be tires that were worn out. I figured that out when i rotated the tires and the sound moved to the front of the car... Go figure. Replaced the tires and all the noise went away.
