03 Chev 1500HD Ran out of gas. now wont start

I ran out of gas in my 03 Chev silverado 1500HD 6.0
I put fuel in, but now it wont start. I assume I probably need to bleed some air out. Is there an easy way to get me back on the road without having to have it towed to a mechanic?
Thanks

I had this same problem and first i took it to the chevy dealer and they charged me 2500 bucks to change a bunch of stuff that didn't fix the problem this included the starter and O2 sensors and a computer board. To say the least i feel like they took me to the cleaners and didn't fix it anyways. The same problem happened again and i took it to my local mechanic and he said all it was, was a 20 amp fuse under the hood and charged me 10 buck to fix it. I'm not sure which fuse it was. But i would start there.

Same thing happened to me it was just a fuel pump fuse under the hood. The fuel pump is located in the gas tank, it uses the fuel that is pumped through it for cooling. When the pump runs dry it gets hot and draws too many amps.

The dealer screwed you.

You cannot run out of gas in these Silverados unless you have a spare fuse on hand. Luckily after a bit of troubleshooting I figured this out on the side of the road before I had to have it towed.

yes it is probably fuel pump which is located in the gas tank. gas keeps pump from overheating. never let fuel level get too low in tank...

Ran out of gas put gas in now vehicle won't start

You must let all air out of the fuel rail so it will start. You will need to crack the nut to the fuel line near the engine to do so. After you have loosen the nut turn the ignition key On for 5 seconds about 6 times to insure all air has escaped. DO NOT TURN THE KEY FULLY OR THE STARTER WILL CRANK..Dry off excess fuel off the engine at let stand to dry before trying to start it up

Ran out of gas, now it wont start. Just turns over

it might be that the gas pump isn't connecting to the engine.

Ran out of gas in my 02 1500hd

It sounds like your fuel filter is clogged. This often happens after you run out of gas because your engine sucks up all the gas in the bottom of the tank where dirt and debris have been collecting for years. I recommend changing your fuel filter and if that doesn't fix your problem, add some fuel injector cleaner to your gas.

Truck won't idle when cold

I had a similar problem with my 03 i went through the stages as you did. also i had a check engine light come on the read out was for lean fuel mix. I finally figured out it was the intake gasket leaking and when the motor got warm it expanded enough to close the leak. The way i tested that was when the motor was cold i started it and sprayed carb cleaner around the gasket and it almost died out. i'm not sure if that is recommended but that is what i did. I changed the gasket and have not had another problem.
