02 trailblazer won't shift out of 3rd gear (4L60e)

When starting from a stop in drive slippage seems to be happening before it gets up to speed. Then when up to speed, I slip shift lever from drive to 3rd no difference is observed. rpms seem higher than before the problem occurred. I feel trans is stuck in 3rd gear when shift lever is in the drive pos. Gas mileage is terrible too.

Replaced distributer cap found this was a big problem with moisture getting in cap WORKING FINE

SOURCE: Stopped shifting

Happened to mine ,, Simple solution : Take it to transmission maintenance,, they clean up the mesh and fresh fluid,, will shift properly, will run like new.

There are to many things that can cause this problem, best thing to is go get the ECM scanned for DTC codes at a transmission shop or Auto zone or Parts Source since they scan for free.
The ECM should have DTC code in it's memory on how the transmission is Performing and have the Transmission line tested for Fluid pressure.
Good luck and hope this helps. Oh and also ways check with more then on transmission shop if there tell you that you need a new Transmission,
It could be a simple as the transmission filter falling off causing the lost of transmission fluid pressure. Check the transmission fluid too.

SOURCE: 4L60E Shifts fine in 1st, 2nd, & 3rd but will not shift into OD

The EMC detected and problem so it's in limp mode, As long as it's in limp mode the 4th and OD will not activate. Take care not to burn up the transmission by running it hard while your in the limp mode.
Your going to have to get the truck scanned to clear any codes and why there are DTC codes. Auto Zone scan for free and most auto shops charge $10.00 to $20.00 to scan sine they want the business.
If you want to clear the codes your self you can put the ignition to the run position and pull the ECM (Batt) fuse out for 20 sec and place it back in then start the truck. It may stall but let it, just start it again and this would have cleared all the DTC code history.
The transmission should be running fine unless there is a problem and the service engine light will be on again and you'll be in limp mode still with an updated DTC in the ECM.

You most likely have a broken sunshell inside the transmission. They tend to go out when the transmission is shifted to drive when while still rolling in reverse.

YOUR PROBLEM STATES CLEARLY YOUR MECHANICAL ISSUE. YOU REALLY WILL HAVE TO GET A DIAGNOSIS FROM A TRANSMISSION SHOP. THERE ARE SO MANY VARIABLES IN THIS SITUATION. I WOULD PROBABLY GUESS A TRANSMISSION SHIFT SOLENOID FAILURE. THESE SEEM TO CAUSE THE MAJORITY OF THESE PROBLEMS. UNLESS YOU ARE AN ACCOMPLISHED TRANSMISSION PERSON I WOULDN'T SUGGEST YOU TRY TO REPAIR. YOU COULD WIND UP PURCHASING PART AFTER PART WITH NO SOLUTION. THESE SHIFT SOLENOIDS CAN BE VERY PRICEY.
