if head is on then there is a plug you can remove that allows you to see top dead center..

SOURCE: Audi TT

I am by no means a car expert. My experience is based only on past experience not just with my 2003 audi tt but other cars as well.

What you describe may be your transmission slipping. You should have it checked out asap before you need to have the flywheel cut--I had that happen on another car and it was very expensive to have repaired.

My tt also has some brake problems which cause it to stutter when I get close to a full stop.

The best of all though is the recall of our cars for replacment of the timing belt--according to my dealer a $1700 job.

SOURCE: Rust on an Audi TT

Audi give a 10 year anti corrosion warranty.
Take to dealer and get them to look at it. I took a 7 year old A4 down and they repainted the bootlid under warranty.

SOURCE: Prob's with my Audi A6 2003 Auto 3.0 V6 (gearbox)

Doubt it as the fault suggests you need to look into the range sensor. If similar to Renault there is a switch on the gearbox that senses where the select lever is (at the gearbox end). If the display is wrong then the sensor needs looking at and either it will need to be adjusted into a set position by moving it, or perhaps the connector to it or wiring to/from it have a fault.

tiger by the tail.!! no, 2 tigers (fignots)
no transmission maker /model told.
7 engines used world wide (no country told)
and 4 transmission used. world wide
or more wiki is not perfect, best is clearly state what transmission this is, Aisin is top maker in JAPAN. and best IMO:here..
all those words and not one EOBD PCM scans to see what the electronic transmission fails, really?

starting in 2nd gear on modern tranny smacks of transmission TCM locked into LIMP-HOME mode, and you ignoring vast PCM TCM DTC errors. buy a scan tool and use it.
the tool is free, ROI(econ) of near instant if 1 hour of labor saved the tool is free, same with service manual from fiat.

Whats the best audi tt to go for

It should help with fuel economy, but then it is a 3.2V6, so not sure if that would be a priority?
I would suggest if possible test driving the manual. Some people just don't get on with D.S.G. It is governed by the computer so thinks it knows better than you, and won't at points let you change gear. Usually if your DRIVING it enthusiastically.
If you've driven D.S.G before and liked it then without a shadow of a doubt go for it.
It is a lot of money for a gear box so do your sums on the fuel savings and resale value.
Hope it helps?

What buttons do i push to take the concert radio in my 2002 audi TT out of safe mode and in code mode to reset it

IMPORTANT NOTE:
You must have the security anti-theft code for your Audi Concert radio from the car manufacturer, or from an Audi dealer!

You can find the radio code at: http://www.radio-code.co.uk/

The sequence of programming for a 2002 Audi TT Concert radio is:
1. Simultaneously push "SCAN" and "RDS" keys until on the screen will appear "1000" displayed.
2. Release keys. No more push on "SCAN" and "RDS" keys because otherwise number "1000" will be considered as first safe code attempt.
For example: we have the security code "5079". Then:
3. By the no.# 1 key you will set up the first safe code digit. Push 5 times on the no.# 1 button. The "5" number will be setted.
4. By the no.# 2 key you will set up the second safe code digit. Push 10 times on the no.# 2 button. The "0" number will be setted.
5. By the no.# 3 key you will set up the third safe code digit. Push 7 times on the no.# 3 button. The "7" number will be setted.
6. By the no.# 4 key you will set up the four-th safe code digit. Push 9 times on the no.# 4 button. The "9" number will be setted.
7. Then simultaneously push again "SCAN" and "RDS" keys to confirm this safe code. On the screen will be displayed "SAFE" notice. Release keys! For few seconds a radio frequence will be displayed.

The radio is now ready to use!

2nd gear drops hard

Dear Madam or Sir,

this is a well known problem with the Audi-transmissions, we do have a lot of failures with them over here in Germany. ;)

There are some software updates available, in many cases this fixed the problem.

Another possibility is a faulty transmission speed sensor, this is causing the hard shift behaviour.

First you should see the dealer to check the transmission control module´s trouble code memory and to check if there is a software update available for your car.

Problem for Audi 2003 TT i switch on & ignition fuse No.11 blows

Does this happen when you turn the ignition to the 1st position or when you try to start the engine? If its when you try and start the engine then check the starter relay.

Audi tt 180, 2000 imobiliser problem

I have the same problem. Short term answer for me is to disconnect battery for 30 seconds and then the car will start. I have the infamous dashpod problem and the keys and eveything are coded into the dashpod so I'm hoping when I get mne replaced the immobilser problem will go to,at least the guys who work on my car reckon so.
With the regular need to disconnect he battery I leave the three screws for the battery cover finger tight and the battery contact loose enough to wriggle off. I can do it start to finish in a couple of minutes but is a mjor pain still.

Misfiring

There are some common things that causes a misfire, one of them could be a faulty spark plug or a bad spark plug wire, another could be a clogged fuel filter, if both of those solutions fail try having the timing checked. Good luck.
