04 lincoln ls 3.0 do i need to replace the thermostat housing water outlet and the gaskets when replacing the thermostat

No

Thermostat & "o"ring

I would just try to get in there & separate
the housing & leave as much else alone
as possible

May be easier to get from the bottom

I have a 2004 V8 so I have different issues

Before you buy the thermostat, look at scan tool data
& coolant temp & remove the stat & check the temp
stamped on it,so you get the correct one

Then recheck your data under same run time, ambient
temp,etc, to compare new stat

Make sure you mix ONLY Zerex G-05 & Distilled Water
from the super market ---- NEVER TAP WATER IN
ANY COOLANT SYSTEM

You only getting 50 % out, with the radiator plug out,so
change every 3 years

I mix 60% coolant & 40% water

50/50 is okey

  6. Clean gasket sealing surfaces.

To install:
  1. Install thermostat and gasket into thermostat housing. For ease of installation, install bolts in housing for thermostat and gasket retention.
  2. Install thermostat and housing to the intake manifold. Tighten the bolts to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  3. Connect radiator hoses and install hose clamp.
  4. Refill cooling system.
  5. Connect negative cable to remote jumper terminal

How to change thermostat

Follow the upper rad hose to the thermostat housing. Drain the rad into a pan low enough as to not lose any antifreeze. Remove the housing bolts & gently tap the housing to release the thermostat. Make sure you notice the direction of the thermostat & install it the same way. Clean both surfaces & use some gasket sealer on the housing side only. Make sure your thermostat is in the grove when you tighten the housing otherwise you might crack the housing. Hold tight & fasten bolts. Refill rad, put heat on high & start the car. Check fluid level again & refill. Good luck!
