Could be just the heat off the hot radiator in a minus temp environment. Just like your breath outside on a cold morning?
However if you doubt that is the case then try to see where exactly the smoke is coming from (Mind not to burn yourself). Maybe a leaking Rad hose/cap?
Hope this helps

SOURCE: Coolant light on an AUDI TT 2000
It sounds like it is low on coolant. Coolant expands when it warms up so if it is just low enough to trip the switch when it is cold it will shut the light off when it warms up. You should be ok to just top it off but be sure that what you put in is compatible with what is in it. There must also be a leak somewhere in the system for you to have lost some to begin with. Depending on how many miles you have on the car it wouldn't hurt to have the cooling system flushed if it's never been done before. If you do get it flushed take it to the dealer to have it done. Explain to them the low coolant and have them check the system for leaks at the same time. Hope this helps
SOURCE: Engine management light come on on an audi tt 2001
Really need the codes when the light comes on. Stop by advanced auto parts and have them read it, or buy a $50 tool. Will save you hundreds with an Audi.
Most likely is MAF sensor. Not as scary as sounds, and you may be able to fix it your self if you can twist a screwdriver.
Are you getting any coolant warnings?
