Help pls my Husbands X Type jaguar boot will not open with the key fob despite all the other doors and windows opening and shutting with the fob. We are really stuck and stressed as My husband is a Doctor and needs to get his emergency kit out the boot.
It opened this morning but wont open now.
My boot button has stopped working. The boot opens with the fob but not the button. Any idea how to fix this?
Did you ever figure this out? mine is doing the same thing, locking with NO obvious way to open it (I've tried all the suggestions), and i store all my equipment for work in my trunk. NOT GOOD!!! The guy who works on my car has had an upper-end auto shop for over 25 years and is stumped.
Mine was locked but warning light said it was open - I drove it over a bumpy road and it cleared.
I had to smash one of the back lights and reach my hand inside and pull the lever inside to drop back seat and get my stuff out!!
got a new light cluster of scrap yard.
now fitted a cable to open boot from INSIDE car.

I cannot believe this has happened to anyone else but just in case: My boot was stuck shut and I could hear the solenoid working. It opened when I slapped the boot just below the number plate as I pushed the release. On stripping the lock mechanism I found the sheared off remains of a number plate securing screw wedged in the mechanism. Since this occurred just after I purchased the car, I imagine the garage I brought it from replaced the plates with their own named plates and sheared a plastic securing bolt in doing so. This dropped inside the boot lid and jammed the mechanism.
It sounds like you need to wd40 the locking system .
it sound like its stiff this sould sort it out .
I had the same problem. No response from the remote or from the boot button. I temporarily fixed it by re-programming the remote control fob (put key in ignition and turn ignition on/off repeatedly and quickly about 4-5 times, beep sounds, remove key from ignition, press open door button on each remote to be programmed). Once 'fixed' I have replaced all remote batteries (CR2032) and I have also installed a crude but effective backup where string or cable attached to the 'eye' of the boot switch can be pulled from the back seat of the car interior, Finally, all wiring connections checked for trapping, multi plugs removed, and all connections lubricated with WD40. Too early to tell how effective this all is, but it is still working ok.
I had the same problem with my 05 xtype.had toremove the seats and pull off the plastic cover on the boot lock.then i removed the interior grab handle cover on the left hand side.this allowed me to slide a long thin piece of metal (bent at the end) behind the lock housing and with a little bit of jiggling from side to side the boot popped open.i then did the modification with a wire tie and a piece of wire to give me a manual emergency release.i purchased a new lock and solenoid which was pretty easy to fit but it still didnt work.i then found a broken wire in the cable holder on the top left hand side of the boot, once this was repaired everything worked fine.so before you spend your hard earned cash CHECK THE WIRING FIRST.ps anyone want to buy a spare boot lock(just joking),im still keeping my manual get out of jail card.

I had the same problem. Driving on a road with 'sleeping policemen' and there was a click from the boot and the warning light went out. It was cured ! Maybe the bumpy ride freed a stuck solenoid or something.

Thank you I have already tried that I have sprayed wd40 all over the boot area.
You do not hear a click when you press the key fob but you do when you press the door locks normally when you press the door locks it also opens the boot.
I cannot open the boot on my 04 X-type, I can hear a solenoid operating in the boot when I press the button - but it remains firmly shut. Grateful for any advice
Cheers
