Something is draining the battery on my 1998 Cadillac DeVille. I have had the charging system checked and the battery, alternator, and starter are all good. Could it be that the positive batery cable corroided where it connects to the starter? I have changed the negative cable.Thanks.
I suspect parasitic draw. All vehicles draw some power from the batteries when the car is shut off. Certain accessories such as clocks, radios remote door openers and alarms always need power. The normal power used is called parasitic draw.
It is always a very low draw so it doesn't run the battery down. If you install accessories like shortwave radios or plug things like inverters and portable refrigerators into the accessory socket and operate them too long without the engine running you can drain your batteries to the point where the engine won't start. If there is an electrical short in the vehicle or a malfunctioning accessory it could be drawing much more than its normal load causing a drain on the batteries. If you leave your door open and the inside lights stay on all night you could drain the battery down till the car won't start.
Here's also a good resource for your car specifically on narrowing down the cause of the drain.
I thought I was the only Technical Guy out here:)
When my caddy was doing that it was the leveling system it runs weather the car is or not just go to the junkyard and get a little pump off one usually on the driver side under the hood undo 3 bolts she's off . It looks like a mini air compressor ...I dealt with that mystery for years bingo last thing I tried.
My 97 Cadillac eldorado was doing that and it was the valet button in the glove box. The one that makes the key fob pop open your trunk and gas cap. I turned it off and all was good.
Check the acc wire going to the starter. Have you replaced the solenoid?

I've a 1989 Cadi Deville got the same problem three times that drained my battery. Got Walmart checked the battery CCA all good. Tonight just found that was caused by the two radiator fans won't shut off.... keep running in low speed even engine is cold.

Sounds like a faulty voltage regulator to me.Start the car and take a multimeter and check voltage coming out of the alternator it should be 14-14.6 volts if its not within these specs take alternator back and get a new one.

If the security light is flashing you need a new ignition.

its the alternator i had the same problem in my eldorado i got everything checked and the said it was good i bought one to see and it never drained anymore
leaving keys in ignition on newer cars makes computors go into stand by causing a draw that will discharge battery in 2 to3 days
