Secondary glow plug relay for a 2000 f250?

Hard start even after letting it cycle 3-5 times, had to put starter fluid in it while being started- replaced one GPrelay, looking at replacing the GPCM looks like it is up in the dashboard. Saw that there are 2 GPR's? on a diagram but I can't find any information on these

So it seems that there isn't a GPCM on this truck? Can't find it anywhere and the only information we found on them are for california emission standard trucks, thinking it helps lower emission due to the GPCM? Anyhow when my husband brought it to Autozone it wouldn't show any codes on his meter?! Looking into possibly renting a meter and testing when it's cold and after it starts? maybe we can test individual glowplugs this way? Going to send your responses to hub at work, they may help his mechanical mind better than I can see! Thanks for the help!!! We'll let you know what we find and hopefully it will start so he can make it home from work this evening!!!

Oh also he mentioned something about a harness going bad? The truck does have 250,000 miles on it!!

SOURCE: 1999 F250 SD 7.3L cold starting problem

Yes, my 2003 did the same with about 75k miles on it, stranded me on days it stayed under 40F unless I plugged in the block heater the night before, then it started like a champ. Dealer replaced the relay and a control unit under ESP warranty. There's no way to fix this one without throwing parts at it.

SOURCE: glow plug system will not cycle

Do you have dual fuel tanks? Place the return fuel line from the back of the fuel pump in a bucket and see if it will start. If yes replace the fuel tank switching valve. It may switch supply side ok, but not return side and if so it is plugging the return, which will cause a no start stuation. If it starts running the return line into a bucket replace the switching valve.

1999 F-250 when cool it will not start. was told the glow plug relay was bad. trieed to tie a wire to the battery still will not start show it with starter fluid it start

The glow plug control is what the problem is. not the relay then it could be both. Have your glow plugs tested should be no more than 4 ohms each.

I just bought a 1986 F250 with a 6.9 Diesel in it. In the morning or when it is cold in general it has trouble starting. I am pretty sure this is a glow plug issue. I intend to replace the glow plugs, glow...

Hi,
I would recommend disconnecting your glow plug relay if you are going to use starting fluid.
With starting fluid in the engine and the glow plugs turn on it may explode the fluid and do head damage. Starting fluid and any kind of ignition source ( hot glow plug ) is like a bomb.

Fuel heating system inop.gloplug system inop.,veh. hard to start

Check fuses. Then check the glow plug relay 7.3l has relay mounted on front top of engine looks like a starter solenoid.... Switch truck ignition on to the normal preheat position, u can use insulated screwdriver or the like to touch the 2 larger bolts (of the four total) at the same time in order to make them 'connect'... hold this for about 30 seconds.. to activate glow plugs... if engine starts, sounds like u need GP relay. If truck doesnt start you may have 'under valve cover' wiring problem. DO NOT use ether to start your truck it will cause damage to your engine.

We put a larger battery (higher cca) in to compinsate for excessive cranking a year later were changing the starter it seems summer comes and we blow it off till its noticable again. If you fix exact problem please let me know what it was if possible. GOOD LUCK and Thanks!

F250 Ford 7.3 L Powerstroke Hard to Start Cold

I have a 2000 F250 with Powerstroke and my buddy has a 02 with same engine. Both of us have had the same problem. There are two coils (look like starter coils) on top of the engine that can be seen from the passenger side of the truck. The shorter of the two, has to do with supplying voltage to the glow plugs. When this coil gets older, it breaks down causing a higher resistance in the circuit. Which reduces the volts that the glow plugs see. In turn resembles a problem with the plugs. My buddy and I changed the coils and both trucks start like new. The part cost $80-$90. and can be changed in less than 5 minutes. Glow plugs are a lot bigger job and more expensive.
