96 chevy blazer stuck in drive

Gear shifter moves freely from park to first gear. i had been having a problem with it not shifting into park. now it is stuck in drive and I can't start it due to neutral safety switch.

Sounds like a cable or lever problem but without a good look i couldnt tell you exactly ,10 secs of me looking i would know thats for sure but from afar ??

SOURCE: 97 chevy truck 1500 gear shift gets stuck in park

You can remove the interlock off the gear shift or maybe spray some crc on it otherwise probably a loose wire or switch

The park shift lock needs adjustment. The solenoid that locks irt inplace maybe the cause of this

The shifter works off a shift cable which is connected to the transmission. The connection of this cable to the transmission is on the drivers side looking straight up were you can see it. The other end connects to the inner part of the shifting mechanisum where you shift
You can only get a replacement at any General Motos dealerships parts department

Check the shift cable where it attaches to the transmission. While moving the shifter, watch to see if the transmission is moving. If not, then check the connection on the shifter lever.

My 1997 Chevy Cavalier automatic transmission is stuck in neutral and the shifter just glides from park, won't engage in any gears.

If the shift handle moves extremely freely (more than normal), changes are that the shift cable has become disconnected from the shift lever. This would explain the indicator not moving out of neutral.
You will need to access the shift lever by removing the console cover. Once you access the shifter check the cable connection to the level. If the cable is broken, it will need replacement. If the cable clip has broken or fallen off, it will need to be reattached.

1999 GMC Sierra stuck in drive. What do I do?

First off, set the parking brake, raise vehicle so you can get under it. Remove the shift linkage from the transmission and manually move the shift lever to park. Then try moving the shift mechanism inside the car to park and then through each gear (engine off of course). See if the mechanism sticks, if so, probably a broken tab on the locking mechanism for the shift lever in the steering column. If it moves freely, try the lever on the transmission back and forth through the gear range to see if it sticks. If it sticks, or you can't initially move it by hand, you have a transmission problem that requires trained individuals to fix. If it moves freely also, try lubing the cable with silicone spray at all contact points, especially where it enters and exits any cable sheathing. (spray into sheathing well) If both move freely independent of each other, it may just have been in a bind, put both shifter and tranny lever in park and reattach the shift cable, Then try the gear range again from inside the vehicle.

Could be the brake switch or the shift lock solenoid. You may be able to turn the key lock to the unlock position, move the shifter out of park, then start the engine in neutral.
The shifter and the shift lock solenoid would need to be inspected.

I have a 97 chevy blazer that will not go into gear. When I step on the brake the button on the manual gear shift makes a clicking noise but the shifter will not move.

You need to remove the covers an see if the plunger is moving. You may have a problem with the plunger getting stuck. if that the case you can bypass it. But remember if you bypass it you will be able to shift the truck out of park with out the brake being applyed

Tahoe is stuck in drive. The shifter moves freely but the indicator stays on drive and tahoe would go in park or reverse.

On my 93 S-10 Blazer there is a small cable that goes from the shift lever to the gear indicator. As you shft gears it pulls the indicator with it. that cable may have come off or broken.
