Start the car leave it for a minute and when it goes to reduce revs and dying, pump the fuel filter and see whether is reving up. If so then the problem is on the fuel filter pump allowing air int he fuel system.

Actually this is a relativly simple fix, it is located near the diesel filter {R/H of engine} and is merely removing the feed lines and plugs, replacing the gaskets and pump, you will have to prime the unit before attempting to drive, be generous with the diesel when priming, as running them dry can be costly. replace the filter while your at it and remember to fill the chamber with fresh fuel before sealing it closed. its probably your injectors, does it have over 200,000 kms or been poorly serviced at some time? have you replaced your airfilter? diesel cars also loose compression when their oil is old, and will idle differently and smoke more..

Landcruiser 100 vx, 2003 model with engine number 1HD-FTE is not starting, I've found out that the fuel pump, starter, battery are all functioning well. Where next should I look at.

The crazy thing about diesel vehicles is that once they are hot, they don't need a spark to keep running, because they work on compression creating heat and a pump injecting fuel. If it has a mechanical pump, the running engine keeps supplying the injectors.. You have a stuck throttle.

It is wise to suspect a fuel problem: Assuming my research is correct, and your engine is a 1974 model, then it is time for two things, and neither are cheap, but as long as you take care of them, and are good and kind to that engine yet, it'll last forever: It needs a new injector pump, or a rebuild of its current one, and it needs new injector nozzles. There's nothing really in the way of electronics that could kill this engine.
