I have an 05 impala and every time its started the traction control light comes on dings a couple times and says "service traction system" in the info center on the dash and the abs light comes on too and stays on. I recently replaced the rear brakes and that is when the problem started. I believe I may have damaged one of the sensors for the abs on one of them. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 2005 Chevy Impala with both the ABS and Traction Control lights on. They stay on as long as the car is on. I checked bearing on both side and they're fine. BUT, I found that the wires to the ABS/Traction Control on the front driver side are broken. I've been looking online for a replacement. Anyone know how hard these are to replace? One side is easy to disconnect, the other side seems to go inside the hub on the inside.
Fairly easy to replace. Parts stores sell replacement wiring harnesses complete with connectors. Disconnect plug and cut the wires at the sub-frame, then connect the new wiring harness to the wires and plug it in. Secure the new harness with the clips provided and it should solve the problem. This is a common problem and is often misdiagnosed as the hub sensor, or even other components, when 90% of the time, the wires get worn and broken over time-as wires do when they are under constant movement. The harness costs around $40-60 at most parts stores. It is called a Wheel Speed Sensor Wire Harness.
Some comments are made about these wiring harnesses that they need to be soldered in. The older one may have needed to be, but the ones today only need to be connected using but connectors. That will do just fine.

2005 Impala it turn off some times when I am coming to a complete stop or when I am slowing down but it starts right back up with no problem can you help me
may be the fuel injectors.They may be dirty, try soaking them in gas for afew hours. could be ur fuel filter too

I have a Grand Prix that is doing almost the samething one day it would all be good and the next the lights would be on. I replaced the front hubs since they were loose and starting to get noisy at hwy. speeds however this didn't fix my issue it actually got to be more frequent that the lights would illuminate and the system be disabled. What I found to be the issue is after removing the wiring from the lower control arm on my car and removing the split loom that cover's and "protects" the wheel speed sensors wiring was broken wiring clear as day cracked in half and when these wires would contact the light would stay off but as soon as they moved and lost the connection the lights would illuminate and the cycle start all over. These wiring tails are available aftermarket for far less then they are from GM Dorman sells them for around $30 each and it includes the plug however they do need to be soldered in and shrink tube installed to keep out unwanted moisture tape won't work.
I stated below that the wire for the wiring harness are usually what goes bad with an issue like this the wires are available aftermarket from Dorman Part # 970042. If you have any experience soldering wiring you can do this job. But if you're refering to the wiring coming out of the hub and bearing assy. it's self that can only be repaired by replacing the Hub as far as I am aware of. When you purchase a hub and bearing assy it comes with the wheel speed sensor and the wiring along with the pigtail.

It will be right tront hub assembly pplug bad or or hub itself
The traction control works off of the abs.So when abs has problem traction is disabled. If problem started when brakes changed most likely one of these sensors. Check rear wiring and see if you can see any physical damage.
I have an '05 Impala LS and had the same problem about a year ago. Turns out I had a bad right front wheel bearing.

I have a 2004 Impala and this morning, both the ABS and Trac off are lit up.
I have noticed in the past couple of weeks that when slowing down and coming to a stop the car or brakes make a whoop whoop whoop noise. It's hard to put in an email but that is as close as I can get it. It also has a small tinging noise, very faint.
changed front and rear brakes and rotors and 2 new front hub asemblys and now my abs and trac light comes on i also think it is a defective hub asembly
it will be more than likely the right front hub sensor plug or the hub itself defective
I have the same problem now. I have yet to repair any of the system yet as I cannot find an exploded schematic drawing of the front hub assembly. My brother in law is a mechanic and will fix it all for me but I want to know how the whole system works as I over see/help him while he works. I used to fix almost anything that was mechanical before my workplace injury. Now I totally rely on others to fix my vehicles and all other items. It is really difficult not being able to do all my own repairs, but life does go on.

The first time I had this problem, last spring, I ended up having to have my front wheel module or hub. It ran about $400.00. It fixed the problem so I was surprised when it started up again in Nov.
After posting my problem with the car, the lights went out and no noise can be heard. I'm hoping whatever it was fixed itself but I know I'm probably dreaming.
