you must fill the fuel filter housing with diesel to eliminate air pocket. if you don't have diesel, fill it with automatic transmission fluid. it will smoke for a few seconds, but it will run so fuel pump can catch up. don't touch throttle for a few seconds till you know that it is running on diesel and the tranny fluid is all used up.

If you have the 6.0 ltr diesel, then check the bowl where the 2nd fuel filter is, see if there is fuel in the bowl, if not then either your fuel pump which is on the frame under the driver's side in the water seperator/ heater has gone bad, or your filters could be bad, or the fuse to the fuel pump or the pump shut off switch which is located on the side panel at your feet on the passengers side, there is a reset button, make sure it has not popped and press it down, hopefully this helps, I had the same prob.

The fuel pump relay switch, if that is what you are looking for, is actually a red button hidden underneath the hood latch. We just had to do the same thing and that will fix it. Just press the red button and you should be fine.

SOURCE: 2004 Dodge ram diesel just die out of the blue.
Michael- I just had the same think happen to my 2004 Dodge just yesterday. The dealership tells me it's the transfer pump, but it now requires it to be moved from the side of the engine to the fuel tank. The parts seem to be scarce, and may take a little over a week for me to get them here in Boston, and the total job is $1100. Hope you got your's fixed.
