Location of sparkplugs - 2002 Ford Explorer

The sparkplugs are located inside the top of cylinder heads.if you follow the sparkplug wires to head you will see plugs. you will need to remove the top plastic engine covers to see them. good day

Open the hood to access the engine compartment. Locate the sparkplugs sitting to the side of the motor. Six wires run to the motor, three on each side.

Twist the rubber boot and pull away from the sparkplugs. This will expose the sparkplug.

Unbolt the sparkplug with a socket wrench. Use a 5/8-inch deep-well socket attached to the socket wrench.

Pull the sparkplug away from the motor. Discard the sparkplug.

Screw the sparkplug into the motor by hand. Make sure it is hand-tight.

Tighten the sparkplug with the socket wrench, using the deep-well sparkplug socket.

Click the wire to the sparkplug wire to the end of the sparkplug. Gently pull the wire to ensure it clicks into place.

Repeat the procedure for the remaining five sparkplugs. Change each sparkplug one at a time.

With you hood open and you are standing in front of the car sparkplug wires need to be removed,i suggest you remove them one at a time, under each wire the sparkplug is threaded into the cylinder head,using a 5/8 sparkplug socket remove the sparkplug and replace it with new properly gapped sparkplug.Note:if you remove all sparkplug wires at once the factory wires are generally numbered 1 2 3 4 the sparkplug closesed to the passenger fender is #1 and the one clossesed to the driver's fender is #4.Standing in front of vehicle the PCV Valve is located between #3 and #4 on the backside(intake side) of the engine fitted down into a rubber hose

You have the 3.2L 6cyl ? The wire connector at each coil that is positioned above the sparkplug is a bit tricky to remove. Start with an easy to get at one-like one on engine front passenger side. There is a clip you have to push in to release the connector-it will slide out. Then remove two screws holding coil to valve cover and pull it up-it will have a long boot on it. Use a sparkplug socket and long extension to remove sparkplug. Tip: driver's side sparkplug located nearest to firewall of car is a bit tricky to get out because of steering/master brake cyl-use two short extensions-when sparkplug is unscrewed from engine-lift it up a bit-remove one extension-then lift plug out.

On the engine.

There is no cap and rotor, as the vehicles igntion system is DIS (digital ignition system). The recommended tune-up on these motors require sparkplug and coil replacement. The coil type in this vehicle is COPs (coil over plugs). Usually moist and oxidation develope on the sparkplug chamber walls from faulty or worn coil boots. This causes the coil to short, they must be replaced at 75,000 miles at the same time the sparkplugs are replaced. Typical symtoms are: Vehicle stalls (restarts and runs normal), intermitted jerks/sputter while driving, misfires, rough idle, severe power loss. Hopefully this helps

Its located in the head and accessable through the top of the engine. Very easy too replace!! You must remove the plastic black cover, and you'll notice 4 blk ignition coils. Remove those!! And the sparkplugs will be at the bottom of those shafts. Make sure to use a sparkplug socket, otherwise it will be difficult to take them out of the shaft. Hopefully this helps!!

This vehicle's sparkplugs are located on the intake, right beside the fuel injectors. This is a time consuming job, and it is recommended to replace all COPs (Coil on plugs) very costly!! **WARNING**>> Work on the plugs with the engine cold, these engines are know for very little sparkplug threading and causing the plugs to eject while in operation. Be very carfeful installing as they are installed at an angle.

there in the back where you cant see.you just got feel them some times its easer to do them from underneth

They are located at the top of the cover. you may have to remove the coils to get to some of them. use a sparkplug socket. they have a rubber insert inside so you will not break the plugs. ask your parts store cleck for the gap om new sparkplugs
