When i turn the key everything does what its supposed to up to the point when the motor is supposed to turn over.... instrument lights, fuel pump, even that annoying ding-...ding...ding happens cuz the doors open....BUT NO CRANK OF THE DAMN MOTOR. UUUGHHHH...IM SO FRUSTRATED!!! headlights come on bright as ever, but no engine action...WHYYYYYYYim having the same problem. Ive come to the conclussion that its not the battery or the starter. I have the same problem. I even tried to jump it from 2 other vehicles so I know there's enough juice there to make it turn over. I haven't checked my starter yet though. I kind of sounds like it's doing something but when it comes time for the motor to turn - it just won't.
Many moons ago me and a friend were trying to get it started. We cranked it over many times but it wouldn't even sputter - maybe we overworked the starter BUT it worked during all of that time.

same with my 97 cavalier it will turn on for about 2 soc. then it would die, we changed the fuel filter and nothing changed?? any hints.same with my 97 cavalier it will turn on for about 2 soc. then it would die, we changed the fuel filter and nothing changed?? any hints.
same with me,its start for a while then die, sometimes after 5mins of starting it works but sometime it wont, until the battery discharged.even my mechanic having hard time dealing with it.

The car won't turn over as in I assume when you turn the key the engine will not turn over??? Asking because that would never indicate needing to change the fuel pump or filter.
I would guess if it won't turn over and your battery was tested and passed as being good, you either have loose cables on your battery, a bad ground. Take the leads off the batter and clean them up good. Scrape the inside of the lead lead that bolts on to the battery and do the same with the battery post and then put the leads back on making sure you are able to tighten them down good. That's a start
I am with Peter on this one. No diagnostics to this before replacing parts? Not that what you have done is a waste of time by any means but should have been diagnosed first. I assume it is turning over but just not getting gas is why you went the route of of the fuel supply. You could have saved a bit of time by having a fuel pressure test done which is what I think you still need to do here. Verify that the fuel is getting the the engine. That will for once and all confirm or eliminate your fuel problem. This test should not cost you more than 75.00. You can go to a parts store like ORielly and they will let you use a pressure tester for free. Hope this helps and I will keep checking for responses and help with what I can.
i know industry jargon can be confusing, but lets try this. if it turns over but won't start, it could be your ''ignition module'' that sits on top of the vave cover on the motor or it might be the fuel pump or filter. make sure when you crank the engine that the key is all the way turned or it may not always make a proper contact to activate the ignition module. iv'e seen this before & had to change the ignition switch & all worked ok after that. i would need to know engine lt size to give you more details on the matter. please get back to me.
what do you mean by "dash lights"? how do you KNOW the pump isnt working? how do you KNOW its good? at the ignition switch the ORANGE and PINK should have power in the RUN position the BROWN and TAN/WHITE should also be HOT in the run position. There should be a red wire near the fuel pump relay, make sure its HOT when cranking. IF its HOT and the fuel pump doenst run, the pump is bad. You can also put 12V on that red wire and power the pump.
These cars were made with an anti theft security system. If you swapped motors, you may have interupted that system causing the the security to turn off the ijector fuel. Just a thought.
well there is a fuel pressure regulator which keeps pressure on, even while engine is off. i would suspect it is bad, or you have something else leaking pressure off while the engine is not running.
my next step is to MANUALLY attempt to see if this engine will turn. Disconnect battery, remove starter completely which will expose the flywheel. With a HEAVY flat blade screwdriver partially inserted by a tooth in the flywheel, exert pressure in a pivot movement trying to move the flywheel . If it doesn't move the engine is seized.
When you turn the key, you should hear the fuel pump make a whiring noise as it dispenses the fuel. If there is no noise. the fuel pump is not working.
Have you checked the fuel shutoff inertia switch.?
Check your owners manual for location.
