Make sure you have brake lights.This is were the shifter solenoid gets it's signal from to get it out of gear.
One thing you can try is turn the igntion switch towards the run postion stopping just short of activating the electronics.Then try and move shifter to neutral then you can start it and out it into gear so you can drive it to get it fixed.

How to bleed cooling system on a 2000 Lincoln continental
The generic way is to raise the front of the car as high as possible, fill the coolant recovery/surge tank all the way to the top and then run the engine until it reaches operating temperature, do not overheat this engine! Now shut the engine down and let it cool off, you can run cold water over the radiator to speed the cool down, it will gravity self bleed, repeat as needed.
Transmission Problem
Your particular vehicle has the 4R70W trans,and i have rebuilt a ton of them over the years.It could very well be a TCC shudder.Let me explain.Between the rear of the engine,and the front of the trans is a Torque Convertor.Inside the convertor is a clutch that only applies after 4th gear is achieved.This is to reduce slippage and gain better fuel economy.Sometimes,the fluid will deteriorate,or the clutch will become weak and won't hold totally,and will give a chattering or running over a washboard sensation.Sometimes the engagement and disengagement is simply harsh.This can usually be remedied with a fluid replacement of both the pan and the fluid in the torque convertor,along with some shudder fix fluid that you add in to the fluid.Total cost should be $100-$150-$200.If the fluid change and shudder fix doesn't correct the problem,then the torque convertor itself would need to be replaced with a remanufactured unit.Ford has more info on this shudder fix as there was a recall campaign i believe for the convertor shudder problem.Good luck.
