There are no codes for this. The issue may be that the gem is getting a driver door open signal or the gem itself is bad. I got a used gem at a salvage yard for $20 recently, but make sure its not the door switch first. You can pull the connector off the switch and use an ohmmeter to see if the wire is grounded. If it is, trace it to the gem to find where it is getting cut into.

Brake/Shift Interlock System
The shift interlock system prevents the shifting from PARK (P) (when the ignition switch is in the RUN position) unless the brake pedal (2455) is depressed. The interlock system consists of an electrical solenoid mounted at the base of the steering column (3C529). If the ignition switch is in the RUN position, the solenoid has continuous power supplied unless the brake pedal is depressed.
Removal
Remove steering column as outlined in Section 11-04A or Section 11-04B .
Unclip wire terminal from solenoid.
Remove insert plate and solenoid by removing three retaining screws.
Pry off clip.
Installation
NOTE: The clip which retains the solenoid to the insert plate should not be replaced for service. The clip's sole purpose is an assembly aid for the assembly plant.
Position insert plate/solenoid assembly to the steering column and tighten the retaining screws.
Install the steering column in the vehicle as described in Section 11-04A or Section 11-04B .
look under the top of the power distribution box it has a diagram.
The max fuse blowing means you have a serious short,a hot wire touching ground perhaps it's broken or pinched somewhere.
Maybe you have a bad speed sensor, its a shot in the dark but that sensor controls a lot of functions like the ABS, speedometer, check engine light can come on, automatics will shift hard or may not shift at all, o/d will flash. The video below shows a 1999 ford ranger automatic but if you check you might have the same sensor.
