1999 Ford Explorer. Why does my car "shimmy" above 50 mph.

Question edited for clarity. Question moved to model category. It could be so many things. Look at the YouTube channel called 'Just Rolled In'. United States vehicles in terrible condition being driven into garages all across America. It could be so many things and needs to be put up on a hoist and checked. In no particular order. Loose wheel lugs or only 1 wheel lug bald tires over inflated or under inflated tires deformed tires with bulges, wheels out of balance bent rims worn tie rod ends worn wheel bearings broken suspension springs failed shock absorber struts rusted out parts on anything holding the wheels worn sway bar bushes (called 'sway bar' for good reason) Not an exhaustive list, but likely one of the above. more here https://www.google.com/search?q=1999+Ford+Explorer.+Why+does+my+car+%22shimmy%22+above+50+mph ..

1994 Explorer Eddie Bauer 4x4 wont go into Drive???

Question edited for clarity, full year make model Question moved to sub category. It appears to have history. A bit worrying you say 'kinda changed the filter and fluid'. Most are sealed for life, and the amount of fluid is critical. If you drain, you measure what comes out and replace with the same amount of the right type of ATF. Possible ignition switch problem? 99 Explorer

key chime sounds if the little tab is grounded where the key contacts it. The theft light is supposed to blink when the system is armed to let you know it is armed. That's normal.

What do you mean by auto door locks won't unlock? The remote doesn't work? the door lock/unlock button on the door trim panel? Do they lock ok? Or, just unlock doesn't work?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: The generic electronic module/central timer module (GEM/CTM) is connected to the ISO link and is diagnosed through the data link connector (DLC) with New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester.
There are five warning chimes and lamps the GEM/CTM controls: headlamps operating without the ignition on (chime only), door ajar (chime and lamp), key-in-ignition (chime only), driver seat belt warning (chime and lamp), and message center.

Audible Warnings Warning Condition Lamp Duration Audible Duration Audible Output Safety Belt 60 Seconds 6 Seconds Chime, 60/Min. 740 Hz Key In Ignition — Continuous Chime, 120/Min. 740 Hz Headlamps On — Continuous Chime, 240/Min. 740 Hz Door Ajar Continuous 1 Second Single Tone, 1000 Hz Message Center (Tone Request) — 1 Second Single Tone, 1000 Hz
When the is turned to RUN or START from OFF or ACC, the chime will sound for six seconds or until the safety belt is buckled.
The will turn on for 60 seconds or until the driver safety belt is fastened. Both the chime and the lamp turn on at the same time.
If the safety belt is buckled before the ignition switch is turned to RUN or START, from OFF or ACC, neither the chime nor lamp will be activated.
Anytime the is changed to RUN from START while the safety belt warning indicator is activated, the safety belt warning indicator will remain activated until either the timing sequence has been executed or the safety belt is buckled.
When at least one door is ajar and the key is in the RUN position, the door ajar cluster lamp is activated and remains on until all doors are closed. A warning tone will sound once any time the key is in the ignition switch and any door is open.
The key-in-ignition warning will sound when the driver side is opened with the key in the and the in OFF or ACC. It will continue to sound until the key is removed, the is closed, or the is in RUN or START.
The headlamp-on reminder chime will be activated if the headlamps or parking lamps are on, the key is not in the ignition switch, and the driver door is opened.
A single tone will be provided each time a ground signal is received from the message center. A one-second tone will sound for warning indications from the message center. A 100 milli-second tone will sound for each message center button depressed.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
  1. NOTE: The generic electronic module (GEM)/central timer module (CTM) must be reconfigured upon replacement. Refer to the New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester help screen on the configuration card to program the Tire Size, Axle Ratio.
The power windows system and rear window defroster system are (GEM) controlled systems.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • All Windows Operate With the Ignition in the OFF Position
  • Circuitry.
  • Accessory delay relay.
  • CHECK the accessory delay relay; REFER to Component Test. If OK, REPAIR circuit 400 (LB/BK). If not OK, REPLACE the accessory delay relay. TEST the system for normal operation.

Where is the pcv valve located on a 1999 ford

What throws everybody is that the pcv valve does not insert into the valve cover as it does most cars. This one on the 1999 explorer is located directly behind or in back of the engine on the top of the manifold. You can spot this easier if you take off the covering(four screws) on manifold then you will see two hoses that connect to a plastic pcv valve (that's what threw me). this should help.

Schematics for installing ignition switch for a 99 Ford explorer

If your wires somehow got disconnected or burnt go to a junk yard and cut out the connector with as much wire as you can get then match them up color to color or buy the chiltons book but it might not have that so the junkyard is the best solution

Sounds like the diaphragm o ring that engages the forward clutch pack is worn, would recommend pulling out transmission and sending it to a specialist. It’s a very complicated job
